butch Alsancak is a pretty big area, it would help all if you could narrow the location down a bit. AJ

Why put on a disturbing post like this without adding details of what area this is!? Most unhelpful. Also any poisoning incidents should be reported to KAR. For everyones sake, tell us WHERE!

Last night we went to friends in Alsancak and was told a dog and a cat were dead by the side of the ravine. Head towards to Black Olive Cafe from the main road and turn left at the first roundabout,we call it The Riverside roundabout, the animals were down there.

As far as I can ascertain the location is left at the riverside roundabout when travelling from the Golden Lady, across the small ravine with the cattle pens on the left and on to the next large ravine where the municipal water well is situated. At the top of this ravine there is a road to the left which heads back towards the Girne to Lapta main road. My enquiries indicate that the crime was committed on this road and indications are that it involved, at the least 4 dogs, and 1 cat so the initial post is well founded. Leads and muzzels seem to be an absolute necessity but safety for cats is of course even more problematic.

the main area has been behind nosheens(the old friendz restaurant) all dogs have pulled through, thankgod. I have heard since that it some more dogs have been poisoned in Alsancak not sure where abouts, sounds like the whole of the area is being targeted. sick, sick.

Sorry Earlybird you feel the info was short. I think everyone needs to take extra precaution and get a stock of Atropin in your home and carry it around with you,it will give you a liitle time to get your animal to the vets,we have been advised by our vet that once Atropin has been given you should still attend your animal to your vet. EVERY WHERE SEEMS DANGEROUS.

Message 12 - we live down there, have 2 dogs! Havent seen any dead ones so may be further along - but there ARE a lot of strays around there which bark and bark - and a lot of cats scrounging in bins. We will keep a look out. One of ours, who never goes out the gate was ill over the weekend, just vomitting, so if something had been thrown over, it must have been very mild. He does rattle around inthe "undergrowth" so we thought he'd eaten a lizard or something which disagreed with him.
