Foreign Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün has said that for the first time there is a consensus among the political parties on the Cyprus issue and added that if this continues the Greek Cypriot side would see the realities and therefore a solution would be possible on the island. Foreign Minister Özgürgün touched upon various domestic and international issues while responding to criticisms directed at him during debates on the 2011 budget of the Foreign Ministry.

Noting that President Derviş Eroğlu is continuing the Cyprus negotiations process, Özgürgün said that the Foreign Ministry supports the TRNC President at every level.

Mentioning the lobbying activities, he reminded that Overseas Turks Congress was held in order to continue these activities more effectively.

Touching upon criticisms made on the Turkish Side’s arguments in favor of un-diluted bi-zonality, the Foreign Minister said this meant maintaining the principle that each side possessed the majority of the population and property on their respective sides in the event of a settlement.
