Is anyone else experiencing break-up of reception on BBC channels between 6p.m and 9p.m.?? It's been like it for about three weeks now. Same time every night. Just thought I'd ask....

It sounds like your dish has shifted out of proper alignment. Call Iceman to reset.

Iceman has been. He thinks it may be the branches of a nearby tree. I have cut some of the branches down but still have same problem. Does the signal 'move' around throughout the day as our reception is excellent thoughout the rest of the day?? Thanks for your thoughts anyway.

Dear Glorybee sorry to hear that you are having these reception probs.. and I'm sure Iceman will get you sorted.. As Cyprus is on the edge of the footprint then any drop in signal is more crucial.. the earth and the satellite don't remain in 'unison' and the weakest times of day are mornings and evenings. Keep us posted as to the progress of your problems..

We were also getting a problem with this on OSN but it seems to have sorted itself out and it is only occasional now.

Mmmmmmmmmmm Question: If you get a foxsat system would it help the signal? Interested as we have normal skybox and the signal is bad in the evenings.

Nostradamus.. the signal from Nilesat - where OSN conmes from is V.strong in Cyprus... who installed your dish and when ? Michelle: the foxsat HD is a truly wonderful receiver - but if Iceman supplied your dish he should be able to get it to work for you with a SKY HD / Pace 2600 receiver .. If your dish isn't 'right' buying the foxsat might not be enough :(

I recall over the years I had a 4.2m dish, there were certain times of the year when there was temporary break up on Sky it could last for a week or two but then cleared up and usually happened at the same approx time of the day.

there is a problem due i think to BBC changing satalite or something and the break up is worst from 5.30pm to 8 or 9 ish. if you have a 4.2 dish change to BBC Scotland and you will get an excellent signal even at the worst times BBC1 Scotland is i think 971 and you can look for BBC 2 scotland this will at least get you to see most of the programs.

The problem that has appeared on BBC channels in the last few weeks is due to interference caused by a new satellite Badr-5 at 26East ( http://www.flysat.com/badr26.php) which has a transponder at 10770 Horizontal, transmitting a very powerful signal to middle east. BBC transmitting from Astra 2D 28.2 East is using 10773 Horizontal slot,so the new powerful satellite (next to Astra 28.2) transmitting more or less on same frequency is interfering with less powerful BBC signal. This interference has affected every single dish from Cyprus to Grand Canaries, some to the extent that they completely lost BBC and some experiencing breakups at certain times of the day. There is no reason for alarm tho,i have found a fix to the problem and applying this to dishes experiencing problem... If you have one of my 4.2m dishes and have a problem with BBC, please let me know so i can arrange to come round and fix it.

Re: Msg 1.. Gloria,i called round to have a look at your dish before this problem started. I noticed that the trees in front of the dish needed trimming "again", so i told Mr.O to trim them and let me know the outcome. Then this problem started & i have been working hard to find a working solution for it last couple of weeks. Now that i have,i will be calling round to sort out yours too in the next few days.

No.. only to get BBC 1-4, radio 5 live.. You CAN get ITV, and most SKY channels with a good , well-installed 1.8m off-set dish..

Bless him, Iceman arrived on my doorstep this morning - before I'd even seen his reply on this Board. He installed our 4.3 meter dish nearly four years ago. Whenever we've had a problem he comes round to sort it out for us. Very reliable. I was, originally, just curious to see if anyone else was experiencing this break-up of reception during the evenings before I chopped down my tree!! Sorry, iceman, and thanks for seeing my posting and coming (back) to my aid so quickly. I shall let you know, tomorrow, if your signal blocker has worked!! I'm sure it will.

It may be mobile phone masts. I get the same issue here in Norwich, UK in my second flor flat. The phone masts use the same transmission signal number as certain channels. The masts are in line with my flat. I find BBC and ITV 1 and others are effected when phone usage is up. I cannot think of a way of solving this. Quite annoying really. Most HD channels are OK bar for BBC 1 HD and BBC HD.

re msg 22 Merry Xmas, Rowlo That would depend on the planned location ... I'm not being 'evasive' but Dishes that are 1.8m ( or bigger) need to be surveyed before quoting re msg 23 Mob: +90 533 8610329
