We are booked togo out from stansted on the 26 August we booked back in June and have paid £239 each , that is flying with pegasus, we have not flown with them before. We booked with cyprus paradise, who we normally book with, and we always seem to pay about the same. In June we booked with Thomas Cook and flew to Larnaca and paid £l86, but by the time you have paid the cab fare back to kyrenia, it wasn"t that much cheaper! plus we had to fly from Heathrow and then return to Stansted. Green Island is also fairly good, although they are a bit dearer., they reckoned we couldn"t get out there for less than £250. Good luck let us know how you get on.

Has anyone tried looking at a chartered flight (flythomascook) from a uk airport to the likes of Antalia and then getting the short hop from Antalia to Ercan. I had a quick look last week and it looked reasonable but I havent had time to check it out properly, might be an idea ?

I'm going Manchester/Ercan in September for £224, booked through the airport's booking engine. I have to change planes in Istanbul but by the time you have got from the arrival gate to the departure gate its almost time to board anyway. Call me weird but to me its all part of the fun.

Out of interest I priced the same flights a couple of weeks ago with travelsupermarket.com and they came out at £218.

Before I booked I priced thomsonfly from Manchester to Larnaca on the same dates and they came out at about £280 with all the (non-optional) extras.

Hi

Have just booked flights direct with KHTY Manchester to Ercan 26/9 to 13/10

£269.00 each return.

Flights to Larnaca were more expensive for these dates.

Dawnie

Don't know if this will help but Globespan fly out of Stansted to Larnaca. We got flights for Sept rtn 3 weeks later £152-00 our son is coming out for 10 days from 4th Oct his flight was £142-00. The flight out gets in Larnaca half past midnight & the rtn flight gets in Stansted 4 0 clock in the morning.

I think you will also find that meals and drinks on the flight are extras unlike THY and KTHY.

I think the taxi from Larnaca to Kyrenia and return in the early hours will not be cheap either.

Not trying to ridicule your suggestions, but these expenses all add up.

For those up t'north monarch out of Manchester usually include meals, but if not meals 12 each way, taxi 40 each way. 2hours less, Larnaca still stacks up. Apologies love a bit of a wrangle!

Cheers p

Everyone can make their mind up whats best for them. Food on flights is crap so we eat before we fly. We hire a car from Larnaca so when you take what taxis would have cost off of your care hire it does'nt work out to sad. It is a pain having night flights but when we've flown CTA you don't get into Ercan untill midnight & because it's our place you don't get chucked out at mid day & have to hang around. But as I say each to their own.

You must take into consideration that when hiring a car in the south and driving north that once you cross the border you can ONLY get third party insurance and if you break down its your responsibility!

I just did a quick search for flights MAN/LCA for the dates I have booked MAN/ECN for £224. A taxi from Ercan to Kyrenia would cost about £20 each way on top, but friends very kindly pick me up at the airport.

Thomas Cook £304

First Choice £290

Thomsonfly £288 (+extras)

FlyJet (?) £192

Monarch do not fly MAN/LCA according to their timetable

The BMI flight from Leeds to Larnaca was over £300 and gets back in the middle of the night. The TK flight gets into Manchester in time for me to catch the train and be home by mid-day

Apologies!

Monarch do in fact do a charter MAN/LCA on Wednesdays but their booking engine will not give any information. Cyprus Paradise's allocation on this flight for my dates if full and therefore will not give a price.

After today will any tourists be flying via Ercan? The tourist situation is not good without this. Larnaca looks better & better.

P & J Please don't be so negative about the security at Ercan it is no better in the south.

The facts seem to be that nothing that was harmfull was carried onto the plane. The pilots took a wise course of action and unlike Glasgow (the most recent British problem) no damage was done.

The Turkish Cypriots do very well and their airport security is none too bad, all security systems will have flaws - when did you lats go out of your home and leave it with a window not secure?

Tourists; are you sure that is who you are worried about or is it your visitors like many on these boards. (Ask any tour opertor this type of thing is a very temporary blip in its own right. I am one!) http://www.iah-holidays.co.uk

The-Wicks - Things like this can happen anywhere. It wouldnt stop me flying in or out of Ercan. We choose to fly into Larnaca but whose to say it wouldnt happen there or anywhere else in the world!

You are more likely to get run over by a bus than people hijacking the plane your are on!

The flights are not particularly expensive - managed to get a flight out for 2 adults for £82 with First Choice, Manchester to Larnaca. But then you have to add on the £85 taxes and charges and then what looked like a bargain is somewhat more expensive. Flying back with Thomas Cook for around same price for 2 people Making total cost for 2 adults £345.98. Still think return flights costing £172.99 each are expensive even if they are good day time flights.

Nice to know that the new tourist minister Erdogan Sanlidag has picked up on the fall in tourist to the island. This year it has fallen from 44,000 British tourist to 31,000 and I have just read that the occupancy rate in Lapta is 8.5%. He has actually sited the high cost of flights as one of the contributing reasons for the decline and has suggested to the TRNC government that they lower the flight prices. Let us all hope we see some improvements.

Hi all,

The hijacking situation will not be taken lightly in turkey!

Also this has not put me off-as this is exactly the intentions of the hijackers-to put people off!!

Any way thge security at ercan is good and will definately be better after this blip!

There are worst things thats happened in life- this was nothing compared to recent crashes in brazil, 9/11 .....etc!!

I hope that they do lower prices as this would definately help increase the figures again and should also reduce the ammount that are flying south and crossing the borders aswell!!

See ya D

Incident at Ercan will not put me off going there. Can happen anywhere.

Glasgow was a target, Spain has ETA and mainland Turkey had some problems, so did Egypt i recall

Other places have hurricances.... there are rsiks in everything we do

I would prefer to use Ercan, but sometimes it has to be Larnaca because of flights/prices. I have this week booked a return flight for a relative from Larnaca to Manchester for £77 (that's including meal during flight). I found it on a website called PriceRightFlights.com., never used them before, and no idea whether all passengers will have to run like hell to assist the plane to take off. Trying to book another return flight on the same site it varies from £120 - £200, so must have been lucky with the date or whatever.

Last time I got a 'bargain' flight it was from Stanstead, return for £85. Plane was a bit late arriving (1 and a half hours) so all passengers got chatting, as you do, then we saw this tiny thing taxing between all the big planes.... and somebody joked "that's got to be ours!", Yep, it was. Good flight though, old fashioned blue leather seats, no complaints from me as long as it takes off and lands. Landing a wee bit bumpy, then announcement from crew, "Ladies and gentlemen (didn't mention me as you can see) we have just made our first landing in Cyprus!" Wasn't the announcement that worried me, just the relief in the voice....

PEGASUS for the winter season 2007/2008

The rates have been published the schedules are at a different time but still on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

We have them on flightholiday, their pricing system is very complex (I reckon it makes CTA's look easy).

The place to look for return flights from £179 (using the best return rate Stansted 1 November Ercan 11 November checked this morning) look in on http://www.flightholiday.co.uk/Pegasus_flights_Winter_Schedule___Prices_2007/08 and get us to try to option the best rates. Please try to use the option form as then we can help you best.

Don't forget that Pegasus also fly Germany and Iran and all round Turkey.

Tom

IAH Ltd

http://www.flightholiday.co.uk

PS at FlightHoliday we also do Sun Express (direct booking from our web site and CTA (KTHY) as well as Turkish airlines.

(Only Turkish cover the North of the UK but then there are also flights to Larnaca which we can get you from the North of England.)
