This post has come from all the Administrators of Cyprus44. We feel quite sad reading some of the adverse comments regarding the so called decline of this Forum. We do agree that over the past year the Forum has somewhat lost it's way. There's a certain element that purposely post derogatory remarks in order to get a confrontation with other members so as to start an attack. The amount of 'new members' has increased substantially over the last 12 months and to be honest it is most of this new membership that are causing most of the problems. They could of course be existing members who have set up different id's - they do this only to cause trouble, why else would you want multiple id's?

We do feel that to some extent we, the administrators, have to take some of the blame. We have tried to create and maintain a happy informative forum, which to be honest the forum was, up to about three months ago. Some of us have personally met other forum members on here. We are all agreed that most of them are genuine and honest people, certainly not a part of the current element of posters that we now have on here. The trouble is we, as admin, just can't win. If we pull a thread it's wrong, if we let one run, it's wrong, if we ban someone, it's wrong, if we don't ban someone it's wrong. Most of you are intelligent people and therefore you can see quite clearly the posters that are causing problems either by continually stirring things up or posting impolite remarks on a regular basis. We do sometimes miss these ourselves.

Our New Years Resolution is to continue to strive to make Cyprus 44 a Happy and informative Forum where members are not afraid to post for fear of reprisals. For those of you that wish to continue to post in an antagonising manner then you will pay the penalty of being banned from the forum. We would like to take this opportunity of wishing you all a very Merry Xmas and a Happy and Healthy 2011. Thanks for listening.

Here, here, and well said Bill.I have posted on here for over three years now,and have become friends with some very nice people.Such as John (Wynyardman) Pat (Simbas) ilovecyprus (Mark) Sue (Bradus) Erkan (ukturk) Lilli (Liz) etc, etc.I have had my moments on here, and received bans from time to time. But i would never stoop to some of the levels that have been seen recently on 44. Over the last few months i have had to bite my lip and hold back my feelings, regarding some of the comments that have been banded about on here.Matters Cyprus, now tend to fall by the wayside,as certain people on here just want to bicker and bully. When i was starting out with the idea of buying out in Cyprus, this forum was invaluable to me in my quest for knowledge about the island. There was always someone who would go out of their way to help you.People like Cooper,Jock,Wacky Jim etc. These people are still out there but post less and less now, such a shame.Would be great if Wynyards donkey came back

No1Doyen: With respect four your good intentions, maybe practical suggestions from the C44 members can be taken into the consideration of the Moderators (I wish Izzet would handle some software problems, but I've given up on that). ▶ Suggestion 1 : if the Moderators find it necessary to close a thread because of the content of a certain post - delete that post before closing the thread and than give the reason. This may discourage certain members to post rubbish etc. ▶ Suggestion 2 : There's often naming and shaming (mainly businesses) on this board (often rightfully so) - name the banned members. They may feel ashamed.

Having now become a regular on here, I can understand why such a stance has been taken... However, I sincerely hope this Does NOT mean that members can NO LONGER: 1) Name and shame 2) Post jokes that are on the edge. Finally, along with the new start promised, does thiis also mean that businesses will no longer be protected and any thread critical of them will now be left and not deleted? MERRY XMAS ALL

▶ Suggestion 3 : Sometimes there are two or three Moderators on line - too many times none. Maybe the active Moderators can discuss a duty schedule, so the board will be monitored most of 24/7. By the way: five active Moderators (three more active than the two others) for this huge Bulletin Board must be called an under-staffed situation. Maybe Izzet can attract the cooperation of some reasonable Britishers as Moderators?

What a nice post mods thank you !! Sometimes i think it is a good idea for mods to remind posters when posters are getting out of hand by simply jumping in reminding folk they are stepping out of line, if posters do not take heed then obviously mods take neccesary action, Simbas use to do this in quite an effective way in my opinion. I do thing that multilple identities should be banned for life though !! Moderating appears to be a thankless task. Happy Christmas to you all.

RE msg 34, Pipie: (...) I do thing that multilple identities should be banned for life though !! (...) ▶ Although you are right, there's a C44 software problem. I won't go into details, but it IS possible to keep double, triple and more identities out. Tens of thousands of Bulletin Boards all over the world prove that every day. The question is whether board owner Izzet Zorlu is really interested in this problem or not. Imo he's not. And the Moderators are not equipped to solve the problem. Some "banned members" know the vulnerability of C44 and are back within minutes. It's quite easy.

Bill, I applaud you on your post........about time too ! For whats its worth my opinion is this forum has been off the rails for about 18 months now and to be honest I thing the little comment you made about mods taking some of the blame is about right. You are the only mod who posts as a poster and gets involved in threads on a regular basis and uses the admin power corectly, other mods simply only enter to close threads which in my opinion is half the problem. There seems little common ground between members and mods and I have sensed a "us and them" situation for ages now which is wrong. The constant closing and heavy hand of mods only acts to get peoples back up which creates the problems you speak about. Its all about managing a situation which rarely happens, threads get out of hand and then it gets closed. I fully support the mods but they need to take a look at how they do the job.....thankless as it is. I look forward to a much improved 44.

As far as the moderators are concerned it is damned if they do and damned if they do not. What people must remember is that all the moderators started out as posters/members of 44. Because of circumstances we, the members called for more moderation and Izzet picked people he thought would help the smooth running of 44, in my opinion he picked the right people. Unfortunately because of both circumstances and in some cases the abuse they recieved, some moderators have stepped down leaving a handfull of moderators who take all the flack. Like most posters the moderators lead a normal life which involves things other than 44. So at times a moderator will not be around when certain idiots kick off and I'm sure these people look and make sure there are no moderators on line when they cause trouble. Please let us all see what happens over the next few weeks/months and give the moderators a chance to sort things out. Also let us all think before we press the "Post Repy" button. Paul

Paul, msg 12......somehow you have omitted my name! it would be nice to see the antagonists thrown off PERMANENTLY and not to be coming back again and again. Not long after i started on the forum i used the names Kapparis Kid and Bobby. It has been a long time since I used those and would be quiet happy for them t o be deleted. Should the moderators not consider an amnesty for those to admit to having other names and have them deleted. Those who do not come forward should be named and shamed and banned for life. This forum should not be full of saints and yes people, but recent times have seen some members deliberately cross the line to be offensive and cause hurt to decent members. Infiltration by the "non carpet baggers" from the south is also part of the problem. Heres looking to the forthcoming changes. POST REPLY.......NOW!

May the new year bring peace and harmony to all, please think twice before posting, tenuous or nasty messages here after all we are all only human and subject to making mistakes etc. Life is a big learning curve every day for all of us. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all just live in peace and help each other. |

Maybe moderators should distance themselves from getting involved in controversial threads. They posses the ability to ban people who disagree with their point of view. Is this fair ? I was banned for a month for crossing swords with a moderator who complained about music in supermarkets ( Andyp ). He is (or was) a discjockey !!!!!

Merry Christmas to all the mods, May I say that the trouble is you dont respond when you get a complaint or you take no action, many of the posts on here are designed in such a way that you dont see - or cannot read the intent in them. It is only my opinion but if a topic or post is so bad as to warrant removal - remove it, give no reasons - no excuses - no warning - no dialogue - just remove it, if it runs for a little while before you notice it so be it but when you do notice get rid of it.

RE msg 52, Lazy_days: A very rigorous solution indeed! But wouldn't it be better to just delete the content of the post and leave the nickname of the poster visible? It must be very discouraging for posters to write empty posts... P.S. Practical reason against your suggestion: if a post is completely removed (say post 50 in a 100+ thread) ALL posts will be renumbered by the software and any reference to posts in that thread will not make any sense anymore.

Appreciate this statement from the mods and I think everyone agrees that theirs is a thankless task, but I for one still think that this is a great board - still very helpful & informative to those seeking information and advice. Every board has those who hijack threads and the cyber bullies, but we can all sometimes be too 'precious' when attacked so for 2011 we should try to rise above the provocation and thereby ostracise the troublemakers by letting their posts just 'wither on the vine' or rely on the mods to swiftly close them. Merry Christmas everyone & I wish you all a happy and above all healthy New Year.

MSG. 50 Vincent wrote:" Maybe moderators should distance themselves from getting involved in controversial threads." I see your point but I always try to write the truth as I see it even if I can foresee that some will not like it. I think it will be unfair on any modertor to hold back the truth. However, I do try not to get too involved or feed the troll and if there is any dispute on the matter I always declare my involvement and stay out of any decision making. That is the best I can do but I feel it will be unfair on me if I avoid all controversial issues altogether. ismet

gooligan message 17. Grow up! Do you really think your message is either thoughtful or constructive? There are MANY new members who post intrerresting comments as there are many pre January 2007 who post gripes only.

Good post Bill but a lot of post's are quite ordinary until it's not to the liking of some poster's, who then go out of thier way, using tactics that cause a response from other people in the same vain making it impossible for the mods to let it continue. So yes some posts are daft, but not every one wants the serious writings all the time, thats why comic strips are in newspapers. SO PLEASE if it doesn't interest you don't open it, and if you do and can't post a decent response, then go to posts what do interest you.

I have had concerns for quite a while about this subject and I am sooo happy that you, as administrators are going to attempt to sort it out. This small element has certainly spoiled the Forum for me and it is such a shame that so few people can do this. The Forum was at its best before this element joined, it will always be the majority who rule and the majority of its members only want to keep it free of all the puerile comments which have been becoming more common recently. Who are these people and what on earth do they gain from their misbehaviour? I can only think that they should wake up, smell the coffee and try to get out more! I want to leave a message for them - try to get out more, put the laptop away and climb a mountain. Look around you at our beautiful world, come and join it if you dare!

As a relatively new member, I whole heartedly support what admin intend to do. Debating a topic is fine, but some people post things that are not relevant and are more suitable as a blog and almost defamatory. Also I don't think the stars idea helps with this, the result being some people just post to get stars. It would be far better if the length of time someone was a member was somehow brought into it more. Admin could also delete stars as a warning. Just a few thoughts. Anyway everyone have a Happy New Year.

it is too little too late for some I doubt, this board needs moderators who are prepared to moderate without contributing, and who can be totally impartial, insults are a part of life and will continue no matter, its when vindictiveness is allowed that one must act Example:- A new member was banned recently because of his/her log in name, but I must ask what about dixie normous, no better no worse, allowed for one and not another ??, also the tache question the person was effectively banned for life, for using a word that someone googled and one person 'and only one' had their own definition of it. Pipie hounded and slandered a company and one of its owners for 2 years on here but it was allowed to continue unchecked, but if people remind pipie of it - they are the ones hounding, a few of the posts have been re-shown recently and the lies outed, but still nothing was done, it leads people to suggest that there are two sets of rules and ulterior motives, "heaven forbid"

All forum admin/mods perform a very difficult job. There will always be people who disagree and unfortunately do so on the forum. I wish all members of the forum a Happy New Year and hopefully a happier 2011.
