You cannot buy road tax on the Greek side before 1st Jan. I know as I used to live over there before escaping to over here. I hope you aren't running a Greek Plated car over here - they are clamping down on that sort of thing and if they catch you the car is confiscated, and you get a fine on top.

Mess 2: I don't think that this is what the original enquiry was about. I am assuming that the question is whether or not the government office at the border is open on Xmas Day for the purpose of getting a T.O.M. so that insurance can be bought for a TC reg. car. Does anybody know the answer to this? By the way, the question of running GC plated cars here is not straightforward but, in some cases, it is possible to do this quite legally.

OK sorry, misunderstood you, you don't need Greek Road Tax to go south, just Insurance and MOT. Yes, open as usual up to about 8.00pm. Reopens about 6.00 am.

P.S.

It is not possible to legally run a Greek Cyprus plated car here IF you are a resident. If you have a holiday home you can maybe get away with it if you keep the car in the south when you are in UK, but even then I know of one guy who got fined, even though neither he or the car ever stayed here more than 90 days on any one visit, and no more than a total of 182 days in any 12 month period
