A crackdown has been launched by the government on UK benefit cheats who live abroad. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has joined forces with overseas counterparts to target the countries where the most cases take place. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12081634

Talking of benefit, I am thinking of moving to the south of the border to claim my lands back. While I am there and unemployed, does anyone know how much unemployment benefit, and child support the RoC pay. As somebody is living in my house, till I get it back, will they put me up in a 5* hotel?

well thankfully our students are now on the ball, and the campaigns run by uncut http://www.ukuncut.org.uk/ are highlighting the atrocious ideology of the uk government. A government who would chase a few million pounds for overseas benefit fraud, but would do nothing about the legal loopholes that allow the likes of vodaphone to get away from paying 5 billion in taxes or for phil green owner of top shop etc to whisk away millions to his wife in her tax haven. and just like sheep we have those that applaud this action, but are completely silent on the gross abuse by the large corporations in cahoot with the elite government dipsticks. you may want to be cattle but the rest of us don't

That few million quid would give me a nice lifestyle!!! Look after the pennies comes to mind. At least the likes of vodaphone are keeping people in jobs so that they can pay the benefit fraudsters and the workers who are paying the benefit fraudsters (or robbers as they most certainly ARE) My brother lives on incapacity (rightfully) so don't play "the there but the grace of god" card. Vodaphone and Phil Green SHOULD pay their taxes but that doesn't give ANYBODY the right to steal money from the hard working british taxpayer Brend

hawkeye. The attendance allowance is not paid to the carers the allowance has to be claimed by the person needing it and it is paid to them direct, the carer cannot collect it.

Brend. You really think they need to take your taxes to run the economy? the bank of england just gives a phone call to the mint and they print a few billion more. The only reason they use a tax system is to keep the masses downtrodden so you have to work like a dog just to pay the bills. so none of this "its not fair on the tax payer". and if they didn't keep the cost of living artificially high (another form of social engineering) then people wouldn't have to scam the system. You wanna blame anyone blame your government and the cronies they serve

oh and ps. If there where no vodaphone or topshop then as a nation with a history of small independent businesses, the gap would be filled, and we would have variety on our high streets. instead we have multi million pound corporations paying a lower tax than the man who earns £20k a year. multi million pound corporations that have turned our high streets into clones of some US shopping mall.

Anlusan, Vodafone (note spelling) have been forced by Government Financial regs to write off billions of pounds of company value each year until the price they paid for Mannesman (£113billion) no longer includes any goodwill element. The company did not make up this rule it's the now worldwide accepted pattern of making the total share value more like the company's real value. They have no choice in this matter. This write-off necessarily has the effect of making it look like they are making year on year losses and consequently reducing their tax burden. Unfortunately you can't have one without the other.

Hi groucho Corporation laws are largely dictated by corporations serve their interest and to sweeten their appeal to their investors. Governments and the people they are "supposed" to serve are an inconvenience at best As governments can set tax rules as they see fit. And corporations have to pay, whereas they have flexibility with dividens . So whoever is wagging the dogs tail it matters not. What matters is that revenue for the government and the people are bein sacrificed for corporation profit and the shareholder. So when we have UK inc (yes it is incorporated) prioritize the recovery of a few million by overseas claimants, whilst pandering to corporations and their billion pound cheating. We have a problem. As in every country. It's value lies with its people. And not the corporations who where themselves for the most bucks.

"Corporation laws are largely dictated by corporations" Where did you get this nugget from? Vodafone were mighty dis-chuffed at being forced to do the write-off because it hits their share value big-time...

but it benefits the investment atmosphere. So rules that recognize the benefit of creating a transparent and investment friendly policy are placed above individual corporations. It is after all their regulatory body. who do you think dictates global corporation regulations. the global government?

Aaaahhhhh socialists - don't you love em! - whatever your politics two wrongs - the abuse of the benefit system and Philip Green's abhorrent tax dodging do not make either right - both should be addressed Groucho is right vis vodafone, as I know to my cost as a previous shareholder
