With such projections, raising the retirement age is the most obvious solution.

Happy New Year!

Geoff you missed the point... only one in five will live to a hundred... the other four will die in harness.

"More than half of these future centenarians are currently aged between 16 and 50." Why is it that you are always either too old or too young to benifit from these discoveries? When I was 21 the perfect age for car insurance was 50, when I reached 50 the age was then 65! As I rapidly approach 65 I notice the age is dropping back to 50 again - grrrr. Now I find I might be too old to live to 100 and should have started earlier?????

"One in four people are unbalanced. Think of three friends, if they seem OK, you're the one!"

Happy New Year to all.

The UK Govt propoganda machine is working overtime. It will not be long before they tell us that we will have to wait till 80 to get Retirement Pension because of people living to a 100. Or am I just a cynic?

More unhappy people will be those youngsters who cannot get a job because the Golden Oldies are living tooi long and doing the jobs too well (in fact, maybe even perfectly with all those years' experience). But I would see ageism abolished. It is a ridiculous discrimination against many who are fitter than school leavers; wiser than the 25 year olds who think they know it all; and have a wealth of experience that can mainly be gained only by having been around a bit for a long time.

Just one question - what is our beloved Peggy at 102 statistically?

Me - I am aiming for 127 and the Guiness Book of Records, which could be the only thing I have achieved in my lifetime.

Not at all. The statistics covers all age groups but the probability varies. It shows that there are 1.3 million 51 to 65 year-olds who are likely to get their royal telegram, along with 875,000 people who have already retired.

Magbs,

Not a telegram these days... I used to visit the Centenarians as part of my job and telegrams have not been used for several decades.
