I know they are a fairly recent (in historical terms) innovation but we all know the real reason some men want their women to wear a burqa once married... it's so you don't know what an ugly frump he's been lumbered with..... Trying to pretend she's really a fox when we all know she's really a dog...

Vaughan, You and I both know that banning them would not stop suicide bombers... You would need to ban all clothing to be sure.

The fact is Groucho that the PC crowd would never put up with Burqa clad women being stopped and searched, so they are ideal suicide bombers.

Vaughan, By far the majority of suicide bombers have not been burqa-clad women so what does that tell you about the ideal nature of a suicide bomber? I'll tell you what it tells me... fanatics make suicide bombers rather than a code of dress but it suits the bigoted to stigmatise a social group by the clothes they wear (Swastikas being an exception). PS bought 15 kilos of AMV for Sparky so he better bloody like it!

"By far the majority of suicide bombers have not been burqa-clad women.." Let's hope it stays that way. Sparky will love it.

Groucho, wash your mouth with soap. Are you saying that all women who wear the vale are ugly? Has it occurred to you that they have been brainwashed from a very young age and actually want to wear it. There was the indecent of the girl in Turkey who was not allowed to wear a head scarf at Uni, so she put on a wig over the scarf and the Head Scarf SS were none the wiser for it. Although I must admit that my wife had to put on a head scarf so she can go through an Army camp once. Young soldier could not believe how blond this Turkish woman was, I just explained that it was aircraft blond.

Unfortunately, Groucho, the problem is that a slightly larger portion of suicide bombers than almost none have been burqa-clad men...

"Unfortunately, Groucho, the problem is that a slightly larger portion of suicide bombers than almost none have been burqa-clad men..." And what form of dress do you think they would adopt if the burqa was not available... or would they simply stop... you know... "err well lads we can't wear burqas so that's us stymied...we'll just have to give up the struggle"

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, Groucho, but you seem to be missing mine. The hijab (burqa) IS available, so it is used to cover all manner of ills. Many of them terminal.

How many of the 7/7 terrorists involved in the attacks on London wore burqas??? None......so i think it is wrong to associate the dress with terrorism. It can and has been used but a briefcase or backpack can hold just as much explosive and is more inconspicuous than somebody wearing a burqa. This is off thread but as a westerner working in an Islamic country, it is expected that western women wear appropriate attire so as not to attract attention to themselves by keeping shoulders covered, minimum flesh showing and a head scarf in certain areas. As a frequent traveller, i have also noticed that some Arabic women boarding a plane in their home state dressed in burqas, often disembark at London in there normal clothes that are underneath after removing their burqas in the toilets. What i'm trying to say is, if by their standards this is acceptable, why all the fuss when western countries are trying to ban the burqa???
