It has been reported to on Sky news that the NHS are to review the services available for men and women serving in the forces who loose a limb.

About time some consideration was given to these men and women who serve our country, lets hope something positive comes out of it.

Couldn't agree with you both more!

It seems that in this 'suing' culture we now have in UK, people with RSI can get more compensation that those that serve our country.

hi hobnob, it beggars beleif when i have just read that the NHS has wasted over £1.6bn on supplies. Computors seem a big part of that budget.

I hope they continue to help and support these injured people after their service is ended. Like all other retired servicemen here we were told that we would still be entitled to services medical care as pensioned service personnel. This of course we have all now found to not be true, we have no rights.

I served for 23 years with the RAF and was very proud to do so... but once you leave you are forgotten! The government should do something to recognise the time that people serve the country. Even token gestures like free prescriptions, or dental, or even bus passes would be something.

As Hobnob says the 'compensation' driven modern day world gives more to RSI than to maimed servicemen. Crazy!

The closure of all the major military hospitals in the UK shows how pennies mean more to the government than honourable service to one's country resulting in serious disability.

I am very jealous of the American Veterans who get access to US Base facilities like the PX and use of the US Recreation Facilities like those in Garmisch in Baveria and elsewhere.

Ever tried to use the NAAFI facilities at Episcopi or Dehkelia ? it's a no no.

I went into the NAAFI at Ay Nik a couple of years ago... picked up some Walkers crisps... they refused to serve me at the till. I had served there for nearly 6 years previously. It is very wrong, but like most things it will continue this way as we all bump our gums about it but don't do anything about it.

Look at petrol prices... at 80p a litre the country blockaded the garages... now at nearly £1.30 a litre we do nothing!!

It is not only ex service personnel who need support.

Some married service personnel are living in married quarters that are not fit for pigs, this is disgraceful.

In September 2010 West Midlands Police organised a chairty event where the funds went to BLESMA, 20 teams turned up on the day, to challenge each other in pulling a Hercules aircraft 100m.

The reason West Midlands Police organised this event with 99Sqn RAF was that they have escorted hundreds of injured military serviceman on the hurry up from Birmingham airport to Selly Oake Hospital.

At the charity event I spoke to a youngman late teens who was a triple amputee, when I asked him how he was doing he replied,

"HONESTLY......... STRUGGLING, I CAN COPE WITH THE SITUATION, WHAT I STRUGGLE WITH IS THE CONTINUED OPERATIONS, AS I AM STILL GROWING AND MY LEGS NEED TO BE CUT BACK."

These predominatly young men deserve not to be forgotton and recieve all the appropriate support this country owes them well after thier career is terminated.
