Amateur cooks are invited to take part in The Old Mill Master Chef Competition which will take place through out 2011 with eight heats leading to two semi finals and a grand Christmas final.



The task will be to cook food of there choice in under two hours. Contestants can cook whatever they like with a price limit of 50TL (funded by The Old Mill). "Everyday" ingredients and equipment will also be provided from the kitchen, in a...ddition to which you can bring in up to five "specialist" ingredients or utensils of your choice.



The Judges will be The Old Mill customers who will be able to ask the budding chefs questions and finally eat and judge the food at the end.

The Heats:

8th February 2011

22rd March 2011

19th April 2011

17th May 2011

14th June 2011

12th July 2011

16th August 2011

13th September 2011

Semi Finals BBQ Addition: 11th October & 15th November

The Grand Christmas Final: 13th December

Sounds like a great idea. Pity you've not had what I would have thought, plenty of response. Can you clarify the requirements for each heat, how may courses? What about kitchen space, how many contestants are you

looking at? Good luck with this...

This could be good, to find out Who is the Best Chef in North Cyprus 2011realy is , i know a lot out there think they are ,now,s your chance and we (customers)get to ask questions as well ,stand up and be counted and it could be a bit of fun as well

Brilliant idea, Chris.... I don't cook too well, but look forward to being one of the customers on the judging panel! Weather here in the north east is atrocious. Looking forward to getting back to some warmth. Happy New Year to you and the family and all the best for 2011.

Could be big for North Cyprus!

I won a similar competition in the UK in 1977 , then taught my wife to cook .

She won Lloyd Grosmans Mastershef in 1992.

Hi professoregit thanks for your post. The contestants will have exlusive use of our kitchen at The Old Mill. We are looking for eight contestants in total and will be running the competition throughout 2011.



The format is one contestant every month leading up to the semi finals. 4 of the contestants will be selected by the old mill 'tasters'. The semi finals will consist of two heats with two contestants per month battling for a place in the grand final - the semi finals will be a BBQ addition which will challange our cooks abilities further. Leading to a grand final in December which will have a christmas theme.



The heat(s) - the contestant will get two hours to prepare and produce there food we will be looking for the cook to produce a main meal and a dessert. We will have various criteria that the 'tastes' will judge our cooks upon.



We are really looking forward to the competition and welcoming new faces to The Old Mill

Things are hotting up in the old mill kitchen we now have a number of people registered to take part. First event kicks off on the 8th February. Anyone interested in being involved from judges to contestants visit our facebook page at "theoldmill ozankoy" or if your not a facebook fan call into the pub or post us a message and well keep you updated on whats happening.

The First Old Mill Mast Chef was a great success special thanks to Sarah Harrison who stepped in with only one hour to prepare and shop when the planned contestant had to pull out at the last minute!!! Thank you also to thoose who came to cheer on the contestant.



This months tasters where David, Patty, Stephen & Tony, who where treated to sticky cumberland sausages with Colcannon Mash and Roasted Root Vegetables, with a Baileys and Cappucino Cake and Irish Coffee. Not forgetting a cheeky bottle of two of Pinotage.



If you would like to have the chance to be a taster on Master Chef then all you need to do is present on the evening of our next master chef event 22 March 2011 7:30pm.



Id also like to give a big thank you to Marcos the Chef for presenting the evening and Andy for his skills with the camera!! Looking forward to watch it on the big screen next Tuesday.
