We had installed about 3 years ago a free standing log burning stove. We were given to understand that it is more complicated to have these chimneys swept. Can any body reccommend from experience a suitable chimney sweep or was these information wrong and a simple chimney sweep will surfice. If so who is a good one.

if you know someone coming from uk ask them to get you some Chimney Imp. Its a specialist burning block that clears the chimney for you. we have a multifuel for 5 years and have used one of these twice in that time.....

Do you really need a sweep,if as you say it is a wood burner ,only use seasoned wood ,then you won`t get a build up of soot.

Richendy Msg1, what type/make of fire do you have? We have a Hunter 8kw and after 4 years, it needed the flue sweeping but I couldn't find anyone to do it. So I took out the fire bricks, carefully removed the throat plate and cleared out the bottom of the flue by hand with a small trowel and a bucket. 1/2 hour, one bucket of muck later and a 'rebuild' of the bricks and throat plate and the fire is going really well. Easy peasy, a bit mucky, but cheap.
