Bars opened, bars closed - but "The Pegasos" in Karaoglanoglu seemed to be here forever. Not so! It's over, Veli and Nursen Dogan retire. No longer will British and other expats meet at the bar outside or near the open fireplace inside. No more good advise, hints and tips from Veli, no more talks with Nursen about the flowers in her garden. I share very good memories with many Brits, who became good friends after meeting there for the first time - is it already ten year ago..? I've made this page as a lasting memory of "The Peg", Veli and Nursen; more pictures will be added: ▶ [ http://is.gd/kmftG/Pegasos_end_of_an_era ]. (more)

They will be missed. We have been ther on and off for over 15 years. Pegasus was the only place to find out about North Cyprus (aside from the Hut) till the BB's started

RE msg 5, MartinD41: (...) What advice did they give to potential Ex-pat British buyer's??I hope it was Don't or, At your own peril.... (...) ▶ Years and years ago - in the sun, with a beer in hand - not many cared to ask not many cared to listen to some 'old hands' like my friend Rev W. who gave sound advise: "Do your homework!". And, MartinD41, not everybody is sorry to live here. I for one am not sorry, I enjoy every day (if you don't mind?).

Well said !! Me too (when I return) Its a mark of the sad times when Veli and Nursen take a back seat, but the Peggy was a great place when I first came out here and have seen it dwindle, but hope it will rise like a phoenix!

I wish them the very best of luck for the future. I thank them also for the helpful advise when we arrived here. The market concept has evolved from the peggie to what they are today. Good luck to you both and enjoy your retirement. xx

Rob Msg 5 - The information was generally from a friendly crowd of old fashioned Expats who loved to live in North Cyprus and contributed to the society they had joined. They were not of the rip off or being ripped off mentality, the pace was easier and everyone who you met less demanding more forgiving. So no they would not have given you that advice. I suppose many might not have wanted to join them in the North Cyprus of those days which was a less sophisticated but unspoilt corner of the Mediterranean. To me it is sad when places like the Pegasos close hence the people who run & used it are effectivley no more.

Hiya again Martin, the days Tom is talking about we were all filled with hope and optimism, i really beleive its much less sophisticated now. Eras do come and go but its lovely to remember them and rejoice in their memories. Martin do you live here , have you for the past 6 years. Sorry to put you on the spot and I really like you and don't want to fall out with you. What I'm trying to say we came here 10, 7,6, years ago believing in hope. As did both sides at that time. Interest was good, ok propery was cheap, we didn't know it wouldn't be well build if at all. We have all learned both the Cypriots and us as we have gone along. Many have lost but those who won have worked with the builders . In a round a bout way its not all bad love

For those who remember: I received an email from "Big Mike" and Ann Law. They're in the UK and say hello to Veli & Nursen. And: (...) of course I am saddened that this special place will no longer be in place. It is now just another memory for us how the TRNC used to be. I think we can be considered fortunate to have been part of the culture that was Pegasus. (...). I think many will agree with Mike.

Thanks, so much, for those warmingly nostalgic links, DC! You probably won't remember me, but I'm the one who told you and your charming wife the true story about the Kent [UK] headmaster's amazing deja-vu experience at Kolossi Castle.
