Anyone considering moving family to trnc must be swayed by the news that an Essex based company is producing 'stab proof' jumpers and school blazers for children.

What made me finally decide to take the plunge was being in Kyrenia one Saturday night last September totally surrounded by young people and felt totally safe and unthreatened.

In England I NEVER go out at night and even feel unsafe at work!

I work in a supermarket, dealing with the general public is not nice, especially when you have to refuse alcohol to yobs.

You obviously live in a crime-free shangri la, try the real world sometime!

Do you not see the news each day? Only yesterday there was (another) teenager stabbed, how many is that, about 17 this year? Only a few weeks ago while walking my dog I was pinned against a wall by a yob who thought I was someone who had damaged his precious car. My own car was broken into a few months ago.

Like I say, join the real world!

I'm sorry you have experienced this Dusterbruce that is not nice at all but I do live in the real world and not everywhere is as bad as some places. People all over the world experience problems and I'm sure even in Kyrenia locals will say they have experienced certain problems so please dont think Kyrenia is crime free - that certainly wouldnt be the real world!

Just a sample from the news programme thats on BBC at the moment:

Statistically you are more likely to be a victim of violent crime in UK than you are in US,

2 teenagers attacked outside a takeaway, one knifed to death,

Motorist robbed while changing a puncture, they threw petrol over him and threatened to set him alight,

Animal sanctuary broken into and day-old piglets taken and hacked to bits,

This is just a sample of what happened in one day.

I realise that KKTC is not crime free but its a damned sight safer than here

İ lived in a small village in Kent, peaceful and quiet but worked in Lewishams Police control room, if only the public knew of the true level of reported crime(before it was re-classified to reduce fıgures), they'd do as i done. İ moved in Nov 05 had no mains Electric or water for a year, but not once have i thought of returning to the UK, different pace of life here, Not quite perfect, but a small price to pay.

Yes and I wonder how much of the crime you ctually hear about in and around TRNC! Dont get me wrong I am totally supporting what you are saying but dont rubbish this country because not all of us have had problems or are in areas where the problems are bad!

I so hate it when people move abroad and rave about that particular country and rubbish the UK and then after so many months/years come back with their tails between their legs! We have friends who moved to France (the husband is French). They went on and on and complained about this country - the schooling, the government, blah blah blah and spent only two years in France and then all of a sudden returned with some poor excuse!!!

Just be careful that's all I am saying because until you live in a country for a while then you dont really know what goes on. But yes I agree a lot of crime has been occuring recently in certain areas.

I worked in KKTC in 1981/2.

My parents lived in Karaoglanoglu 1982 to 1998 (both now buried in the English cemetery) so I visited often.

I think I know the country a little!

I have no intention of moving back to the UK. As much as I love the country and the fact that my family is still there I would not. But that is my personal opinion.

I have been away far to long to settle back in. Some people are born to travel and settle elsewhere, others are not.

I agree with the comments about Kyrenia Harbour in the evenings. I was just so happy to be able to take my visiting family there for dinner in the evenings without the worry of drunken guys and girls shouting and falling over in the street or fighting. It was lovely to watch my little nephew enjoy the playground and be able to video him without being told I'm not allowed to do that in a public children's play area like I have been told in the UK.

Yes, TRNC has it's issues, we all know that. But it breaks my heart to see the way the UK is going and if I could do it, I'd ship my whole family out here because I think they'd live a much happier and safer life here than where they are now. I truly fear for the future of my niece and nephews - what kind of a country will they be living in?

I worry that so many young people in the uk are turning to drugs / alcohol / crime / violence. i'm not sure how we can bring back some respect for others and some sense of direction for young people. Nowhere's perfect but i agree with Kitty, the 'PC police' and the Health & Safety Executive haven't stopped everyone in TRNC from living 'normal' lives (yet?) and schools in TRNC aren't (as far as i'm aware) considering metal detectors at school entrances.

Interesting comments regarding life in the UK, unfortunately, in my opinion, successive governments have undermined the family unit, which is now virtually nonexistant and kids have no good role models, absent fathers, mothers who don.t know where their kids are and don,t care, a benefit culture and lack of responsibility are all contributing to the problems, the politicians are now realising the error of their ways and trying to rectify the problem, which will take another generation, twenty years, I fear, so retirement in the TRNC will suit me just fine, even with its problems.

agree with many of above reasons, most of which reflect negative issues of living in UK, but lets commend the positive points of TRNC life, beutiful countryside and beaches, great climate, reasonable cost living, friendly people, and the benefit of living in a marvellous villa that costs roughly the same as a one bed Flat in most parts of the UK.

Ps or an apartment costing the even less.
