...in TRNC. I know it's horses for courses - what someone thinks is top notch may be rubbish to someone else. Our best meal it has to be said was at Bellapais Gardens - our first evening meal in TRNC back in July 2007.

Don't have a 'best' as it depends on the type of cuisine for the night and mood, but notable favourites are: Pizza King (when it was PK) for pizza and burgers. Guidos for the best Bruschetta ever (littlenige will remember that night!! as will Liz, I think we had about 3 each!!) plus other all round food. LIz is great out front. Veni Vici for excellent food overall, and can't fault Nadine and Richards hospitality. Kids love it there. Dragon for Chinese both the restaurant and the take away. Charcos for a great simple menu that is totally consistently good. Niazis for the 'full kebab' Lacem (when it was) and Ezic for quick easy stuff and the kids liked them. Cafe Rouge if in town for a lunch. Tango 2 Buddha if we leave the kids at home locked in the cupboard. Ravine for fish and chips. And the missus for her BBQ preparations. Worst: Had a good think for 5 mins, nothing really bad springs to mind, we're either luckier than some or have lower expectations.

We went to The International Club on New Year Sunday for lunch. Fabulous food despite having a powercut. That day they were closing for 2 months, so look forward to their re-opening in March. Number 14 is excellent too, but then again they are closed for the winter too. Think International Club beat them for service though.

Best meal consistenly award would have to go to Errols in Ozankoy. We have been going there years, take all our friends and families and have NEVER EVER had any cause to complain. Another place we now love is Manypennys for pasta and pizza, I am an Italian food fan and love it and the coffee shop - Shooters next door is just the icing on the cake as they do Starbuck's type of roast beans. Worst: Too many to mention - have mostly given up now trying new places as we are the type of saddos who still pay for the terrible meals and do not complain. We just cannot bear the unpleasantness so stick with what we know I would like to know whether Guidos is a good place for Italian food but have not had the confidence to just go and try it

I have been on the island for 6yrs and tried the lot. Elenor rigbys takes some beating. Good value, tasty food, nice atmosphere, reasonable price for drinks. Other restaurants should read this message and take note, they need to go there and see what good value is. I hope the place does not get ahead of itsself and go down the pan like most of the others!!

Ohh jakki what have you done OMG a real floodgate opener!! And to top it all your post has indicated speculation about a holy place. Well you started this turkey shoot soya batter name-a-da plaice or u is mince meat ma friend. If my speculative assumption is that which you have alluded to. Then I agree. It was crap! So there you have it an seconder. Effendi's is great and quite like Tempo's for good value. But you canna keepa da uder meatballs.

I have had many curries at the Courtyard and their Chicken Jalfrezi is best on the Island. Monday nights with a curry at the Courtyard and listening to the excellent Brian Delaney is a delight not to be missed! I tend to vote with my feet if I have had a bad meal after telling the waiter/ manager/ owner. Tony

Most enjoyable (not the best food but good) Adana kebab at the Tree Of Idleness in Bellapais (sitting under the tree in the March sunshine) Most disliked, The Ravine. Been a few times and always been a tad dissapointed. (I'm not into fish and chips so I always try something else.)

| Panchocat I am with you on this one. How the food and service at Midsummer House can be described as terrible is beyond me. We have eaten there on a few occasions both from the a la carte menu and the sunday lunch and can only describe the food and service as faultless. If 'splashing out' on a meal means having chips with your kebab, then admittedly Midsummer House may not be to your taste, but as far as I am concerned it is probably one of the best restaurants on the island, North or South. | Thanks Lilli, glad you liked it. As you know I don't eat a lot anyway so most of the time when I eat out I leave a load of food. It's a waste of money. At least when I cook for myself I can do a portion that's appropriate for my appetite. The other week/month (time flies by) when you kindly did us a couple of Sunday lunches to go, mine lasted me 2 meals and Efes still got some |

I'm shocked no one has mentioned Burger City. Is that even chicken in their tender chicken? They also charge 9.50TL for 6 tiny mozzarella dippers. I asked why so much, they said "mozzarella cheese is generally expensive". Durumcu baba is so cheap, so tasty and best of all the kitchen seems quite clean perhaps? what do you think?

Christine, I thought you recently wanted off this board. When did you last try Happy Valley? Riaz and the team are stars and we have NEVER had a bad meal or take away from there. China Garden WHEN they had a Chinese chef the food was great, not so good now he's gone though, in my opinion, although the staff are lovely. cyprustimes your view doesn't seem to be held by others!

Several years ago The Brasserie at the rear of the Girne Mosque was superb...food, welcome, service, prices.Sadly the proprietors left the island and the restaurant was ruined within days by the new manager/chef. It is now a bang, bang music joint in semi dilapidation. The Ravine Fish and Chips were a very poor experience...maybe I had a bad night. I agree that Erols food is excellent. The T Bone steaks are superb...however, unless your face fits the service is dire whether they are busy or not.If you are a meat eater I think the general standard has dropped because it is difficult to buy good beef here at the moment. Why I wonder? Ten years ago it was so tasty it was worth coming here just for that.

So many I would class as best - Rafters, Veranda, Set Fish, Kybel, Bell Tower etc etc. Anyone tried Stone Grill opposite turning to Mercure. The meat is absoultely superb (especially Fillet Steak and Lamb) - and the owner is a really friendly chap. We have taken many of our visitors there and everybody has been impressed with the superb quality. Worst was Tree of Idleness in Bellapais

We've yet to go to ANY restaurant that is 100% consistently good. When it's not, every mouthful can be more than a little bit of a concern!

Best meal would have to be Dragon at the Rocks. The service was impeccable and food fantastic though more for a special occasion as quite expensive Worst meal - What used to be the Indian before Al Shaheen took over in Karakum

Pugwash, No I am not incorrect. Guido took over the Brasserie and ruined the entire ambience of the place. Carol and Richard were the people who ran it when it was a going and high class concern. I found Guido in his early days as new proprietor arrogant and rude. I remeber well him telling me that Yakut wine was not good enough for his food..I always thought the customer was right. The quality plunged and people voted with their feet....why else would he now be in a concrete box on the main road. I always found his wife very friendlyand good at front of house. I love Italian food but as with an Italian friend of mine I wonder why Guidos does not smell like an Italian restaurant? I realise a lot is down to taste.....that applie to food as well as people.

hi Moriarty, you are right Carole and Richard did run this restaurant. I have known them both for over 20 years. They put a proposal to us to take it on for 6 months whilst we could learn the language, culture and see the house we had put the money down take shape,. We jumped at the chance.Im sorry you felt the quality plunged as we weve voted best restaurant for 2 years running whole of the island. Anyway they never came back leaving us in an awful position. We had all and sundry come looking for them. We had a nightmare. Now we do not have the house, the landlords put the rent up after 4 years to a level we could'nt afford. We were in a position where we still lived in hope we would get the house so hence the concrete box. Which incidentally was only going to be a deli but our customers found us and wanted more. What does an Italian restaurant smell like as I can assure you every day when people come in they ask me what is cooking, sometimes its only the stocks we make.

WORST Tervetuloa... used to be to be very good but had 3 terrible meals their now so no more second chances. Another bad one is Shana Beach, food and service. BEST got to be Morrelli ( sadly under new managment now) but realise everyones tastes differ.

Hey Dingo, I see that Happy Valley has offered you two free meals, but I must have missed your gracious acceptance. Moriarty, I haven't met Guido so I don't have an opinion about whether he is arrogant and rude, but I tend to agree with him about Yakut wines. I'm afraid, though, that the customer isn't always right when voicing his/her opinion...he/she is only right about what he/she feels or thinks. You then probably need to test that opinion against as many others as you can find who don't have barrows to push to determine whether it's valid or not. My own opinion is that I have enjoyed the meals my wife and I have had at Guido's, as well as the friendly and efficient service. We've also enjoyed the little Esentepe Restaurant, Stevie's, Tumba, Hati's, Zirdeli and Tanner's. I really like the Cod Baba's fish and chips too.

Went to Guido's for lunch today and had the winter special which I think is really for the evening but they kindky obliged us. I have to say we were impressed with the presentation and the food was excellent. The first thing I noticed was the smell and I commented on the aroma being very authentic so I am astonished that someone can say that it doesn't smell italian because it absolutely did today and we were sitting outside! Thank you - well worth the extra mileage - we will be back!

Fawsley all I can say you do not read all the comments, we do ribeye, sirlion and fillet steak angus to die for, as does efendi and many others. If you go to turkish restaurants they will not understand Blue Rare Medium Rare. Medium Well, Well done.Just call your restaurant and tell them. They are not well versed at hanging meat here. Kill and eat. Sad but true. We have 3 butchers whom hang our meat and we have to constantly go to make sure its right. They are getting there. OK the angus is from dark side but its to die for xxxxxxxxxxx

So many good ones, Tree of Idleness, Sele, Le Bistro, Patina, Courtyard, but our best ever has to be Kyrenia Tavern. The worst was Poppadoms (Bar on 3), it was awful, and yes we did complain. Don't think we have had any other that was bad.

Everywhere has it's bad days so you have to beleive people when they say it was good or bad. The chef leaves is the worst thing that can happen. The chef argues with his wife. The chef argues with her husband. the chef argues with his boyfriend who is maitre d' - seen this one a few times. The chef is ill and the only replacement is an idiot They change their meat supplier. And one from when I owned a restaurant- the chef did his prep work at lunchtime and went for a quick drink. He is totally pissed! Not funny, causes lots of probs! Silver Rocks The Rocks main restaurant Bar B Joya Stevies All good ( at least every time I've been!)

Stevebiff - Kyrenia Tavern was certainly open in August when we had an amazing meal there, once again. It has been there for so long that I would be surprised if it had closed. Perhaps someone who is lucky enough to live over in sunny North Cyprus can tell you. Try it you will enjoy I am sure.

Went to Eleanor Rigys this last Thursday and had a lovely Beef and Ale pie. It was a set menu for TL30.00 for 3 courses. As always i enjoyed it, but what I like is the chef ALWAYS comes out and asks if people were happy with their meal and , at least listens to the criticism and appears to take it on board. Someone didn`t enjoy the profiteroles and he gave them another dessert, no quibbles or hesitation. But as someone said everyone's taste is different is worth giving places a chance and making your own mind up.

Worst: Flippers take away fish & chips last August. A soggy greasy mess and waited an eternity for it and and not cheap either. Most consistent: Niazi's. I love the place, always well treated and looked after. The food is good without being pretentious and we never fail to have a good evening. As always, its down to personal choice.

Far and away the worst meal I have had in my life, never mind in TRNC, was at a Chinese in Karakum, set back from the main road. I think it is long gone, but I can't remember the name. It was utterly revolting, and yes, I did tell them, but of course they didn't understand a word I said. It was freezing, and we were treated to one bar of a portable gas heater!
