Had my aircon units re-gassed last year and looking at repeating the process again this year. Has anybody any advice on how often this process should be repeated based on 'normal / average' useage (i.e. not on full time during the summer and not used at all in the winter)? I can't recall what I spent last year but any advice or experience from others on how much it should cost (I have 6 of the larger units)? Thank you in advance

The gas in an a/c unit circulates in a sealed system and it should not leak out. If an a/c system leaks as fast as every year, it may not have been fitted properly. A/c systems do not consume their gas - the gas is used and re-used over and over.

In the UK knowingly allowing the release of refrigerants into the atmosphere is a criminal offence - i.e. If you regass the same unit every year, you know it is leaking and you must do something about the leak, not just regas it.

However, leaks can be so small that they are undetectable with test gear and in this case it may take 4 or 5 years or more before regassing needs doing.

Your units need their leaks to be found and repaired. Once this happens they should not need regassing ever again. We can offer this service to you and you can contact me on 0533 845 8494.

Thanks to all for advice - I will defer re-gassing this year and monitor performance. If underperforming then I think TRNC Vaughan will have some custom.

You can test the gas charge in your a/c now by running it on heating and see if the air leaving the unit is nice and hot. If not, you have lost your charge again.

Forgot to say - Many people who live here don't use their a/c in the winter and don't find out it's not working until the 1st heat wave. Many people who don't live here don't find out their a/c isn't working until they get here. Please help us to help you - test your a/c before summer arrives.
