We have recently purchased a Villa in Karsiyaka, and have been quoted through our Property Management Company £198 for Buildings/Contents Insurance. By UK standards this seems quite excessive. Any advice please on whether this is a reasonable figure for TRNC

Try to check yourself from different insurance companies, as you can never be sure of the property management company is not getting commission. Better to do it yourself.

Harcook, Your quote depends on what value your rebuild cost is and how much you are insuring for contents. It is impossible to compare with anybody else unless you tell us! For a rebuild of 120K and 50K contents, last year I paid £260 with Creditwest Bank. This did not include the swimming pool, paths, boundry walls. I felt the sum to rebuild was not enough but assured it was correct for a 329 m2 covered area on 4 floors. My renewal jumped up 35%, same cover, no claims made, to £346 and that included discount!! Further quotes from other companies crept up to £580 which included the swimming pool but not the paths or boundry walls. The rebuild quote for buildings was at a higher figure. There is not as much choice here as you may of had in the UK, where you can get a policy for unlimited buildings cover etc and feel confident!!

Harcook. If you have not checked the exclusion clauses you may wish to do so as my premiums are in excess of £400 for cover similar to that illustrated by Mrs Snakes. The basic premium was also similar to yours and the increase to £400 plus was to remove the exclusions of earthquake, storm damage, acts of war, subsidence, collision, etc. There may be exclusions in your cover which you are not comfortable with.
