i NEED A ROUTINE EYE TEST FOR A PRESCRIPTION AND then a new pair of specs for reading. I have read old threads - Canada Optics gets good reviews apart from one bad experience and someone else recommended going South.

I'd be grateful for up to date recommendations including prices and directions.

Akay optics in Girne, 2 branches one in town going down the hill from Windows Bar on the LHS.

The other going towards HSBC from the lefkosa roundabout on the RHS. are very good.

Eye test, well the opthamologist at Medikent Dr. Minne Ozturk is excellent and there is also the eye clinic in Girne past the savoy hotel on the RHS.

forget canada optics, they are an absolute rip off! i went there a few weeks ago and asked the lady in the shop for disposable contact lenses.she told me she had a pair left that were my prescription and told me she wanted £80 for them!

throw away lenses are £1 each in england.

ive been in before and asked about glasses, nothing special or designer, just bog standard ones as mine hade gotten broken.

cheapest she could offer me was £250.

if you need glasses, id go on the net and look at glasses direct.glasses made to your prescription and posted to a uk address - £15.

or if you need lenses go to lensebase.co.uk ,cheapest on the web - 32 pairs are £4.99 delivered !

you are better off ordering from the uk,

forget cyprus for glasses!

I agree with message 2 - Akay Optiks in Girne are excellent. Used them for years even, sent over broken specs for repair, and returned in just two or three weeks...

I would definitely NOT recommend the International eye clinic at all. My husband used contact lenses for many years and went there regularly for his supply of lenses and solutions when we moved here, however he noticed that he was having trouble seeing and saw the optician there and all she could say was that he was putting the lenses in the wrong eyes!

He went back to her and said this problem was still occurring and she changed his lenses, this happened 3 or 4 times and each time he had to buy 6 months supply as she could not let him try a month first.

Ultimately we went over to the south and came across an optician who trained at the eye hospital in London, Moorfield Hospital, he instantly recognised that my husband had catarracts and sent us to an eye surgeon to have them removed.

The op was a success.

It is unbelieveable that a so-called fully trained optician could not recognise catarracts and in both eyes!!!

Hence why I would NOT recommend this clinic to anyone

RE ordering from the UK

It's a great idea if all you want is standard lenses, but varifocals are a no no.

Unless you are going to the UK and can wait up to two weeks for them.

That was the case with specsavers, boots, etc last year.

scoobydoo .. Message 6 ..

Most of the previous posts regarding this clinic suggested the Dr in the majority of cases said an operation for cataracts was required .. Whether required or not ..

My wife has had an operation for a cataract removal at this clinic & the after care couldn't have been bettered .. The operation has been a complete success ..

Hence why I would DEFINITELY recommend this clinic to anyone ..

Msg 8;

We are all entitled to our opinions based on our experiences.

I very pleased to hear your wife had a successful operation with the eye clinic.
