| The problem is splitting the Hydrogen from the Oxygen is very expensive and uses more energy that it would to run the car on petrol |

| Remember seeing on tv about 5 years ago a french guy talking about making cars run on compressed air, he said at the time that production was a couple of years away. |

| It is all the same issue, to compress the air, split the hydrogen/water or whatever at present costs more than the alternative, do you think you would want an electric car here? same as leaving your kettle on all night. |

| Hi. For anoraks (like me!) the Hytrain website has quite a lot on the subject. http://www.cse.salford.ac.uk/research/materials-physics/hytrain/index.html The project to develop an alternative energy source kicked off several years ago, split into 6 components & I had the privilege to meet one dept head. Energy source (sun),energy carrier, storage and transport, reduction device (h2 producer), engine (fuel cell or 4 stroke),recycling agent. Each country concentrates on developing one phase, eg Israel = solar furnaces etc. As H2 is less dense and energy low compared with hydrocarbon fuel, generating it at point of usage was favoured, although carbon nanotubes offer storage possibilities. The MIT site has the latest on fulvalene diruthenium which is a two-state material triggered by sunlight....very exciting!. http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2010/solar-storage-1026.html A bus fleet in China, and USA office block operate the hydrogen cycle.Method mostly proven, commercial scaling not yet.
