A Turkish caretaker looking after the house next door to his and who cant speak English seems to have a little puppy locked up in the storeroom all day and night, ok its a big space, housing mechanical and scaffolding things but there are no windows and the metal door has a small gap in which the puppy cries and to which he tries to suck on my fingers, his eyes look like they have just opened so it needs its mother I would say. I would like to make its life a little more pleasant by taking it in my home some hours when I am there and giving affection and play, which Im sure the caretaker would not have a problem with. BUT I dont really want to make its life nice and then it has to go back in the store room. I have many dogs who have already adopted me and I cant take on another. Should I just close my eyes and ignore its situation.

YES interfere, but not with the puppy that isn't yours. How about trying to show the people a better way of treating it? Use some charms,no language is needed.

difficult one. I know turks dont generally treat dogs well. I tried to give it some pasta thru the iron door but it didnt seem to knowhow to eat. Is it ok to give milk? Its locked up 24 hours and the caretaker always seems to be working in the house next door. Would it really be a problem if I asked him to unlock and let me care for him for an hour or 2 cos I dont think he will.

Babrew (mess 9) I wouldn't hesitate to interfere if I thought any animal was being ill treated!

If you do take it for an hour or so - your heart will be taken and you won't be able to give it back - so I would do as suggested and appeal to the Caretakers heart. If you and he can communicate - just ask straight out where mum is - why the little mite is locked up 24/7 - why he has the pup in the first place, if not as a companion - pup sounds waaaaaaaaay too young to be away from his mum. I would give it a soft toy to lay on, and ensure water et cetera........but you know where that will lead you......

I dont have the choice to be soft and then keep him cos I already have too many dogs. Message 11 is exactly what Id like to translate but impossible as he cant speak any english and my turkish is not that good. I believe he is being fed and I peeped through the iron door again and see that he has been given a kennel made of a crate with some material inside for him to lay on. The only thing he is not getting is fresh air, sunlight and affection and socialising with humans except when the caretaker goes in and gives him food and water. The caretaker does have a small patio and maybe I can buy some wire and show him where to put it and say give puppy some light during the day and I can get him a toy from Mr Pound.

My Turkish isn't too good either. Perhaps you could find someone whose english/turkish is good enough that they would be kind enough to meet you one day soon, at a pre-determined time with the caretaker - and the translation could take place there and then to hopefully find some resolution. The little one needs, as you say, socialisation with humans and other animals - let alone cuddles and fun and all that good stuff.

oh well Johnny (thats what they have called the puppy) was very happy and came to my home and garden and played with my smaller dog for a couple of hours today, so will try and do it 1 hour every day, he enjoyed the freedom, smelling the leaves in the garden. I did try to explain to put wire up outside but the patio is actually too big.

Oh love at least you have made a start, human contact is so important. Playing is great but one of the poor souls I brought home didnt know how to play. I buy endless toys for them all , throw frisbies, rubber bones etc. He wouldnt join in. I bought him a cudly dog well he wont leave that alone, sleeps with it. I guess it may remind him of his mum xxxx

one brief update. He visits me almost every day now and still plays with one of my other little dogs. He hates being locked back up in the brick house but I feel good that he gets out for at least a few hours to play and socialise. Had a lovely stress free moment and a boost of happiness whilst he was sitting on my lap in the sunshine yesterday and snuggling into my fleece and looking into my eyes.
