Good actor, but why is her passing particularly sad? She had her 3 score years plus ten (and a bit) 95% of the worlds population don't get close.

My pity is reserved for the children of the 3rd world who don't make it to 5!

Yeni I agree with what you say but when you get close to that age you tend to relate. I feel for all the children suffering. I was watching a documentary today about children in a part of India all with cleft palates with so litle medical help. Also another one where children as young as 8 are sold for sex trades. It breaks your heart xxxx

72 years is really no age these days in the western world. Apparently she died peacefully with her 2 adult children (Orlando & Sasha) at her bedside. She'd suffered from bone marrow cancer..... Nasty.

In the early 80's we shared a ferry crossing with her and her then husband, Michael Wells, & their 2 small kids on our way to Paxos (they had a holiday villa there) and found them to be a lovely 'ordinary' family. The ferry was a real old 'rust bucket' and we had a dodgy crossing which resulted in my wife & Susannah really feeling the effects !

Saw her live in a production of the Cherry Orchard by Checkov. She lit up was an otherwise mediocre production

She was so good and I remember some of her best being...

The Killing of Sister George

Superman (Marlon Brando's wife) Joke !...not that good but she looked stunning!

Gold (based on Wilbur Smith's Gold Mine)

Didn't she have a cameo role in Gorillas in The Mist?

The first film I remember of hers was "Here We Go Round The Mulbery Bush". I thought she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. Then the next film was "Prudence and the Pill". Anyone else remember these - I haven't heard of them in 40 years.

Mulberry Bush was great...well I thought so at the time. Barry Thingummy who went on to be in the TV Doctor series was in it, wasn't he?

It was indeed Barry Thingummy - and in Prudence it was David Niven.

Now it's come up I have found Mulberry for download:

.. but I have practically blown my limit for this month so it will have to wait a few weeks

I think it was in 1964 or 1965 when David Frost started his famous satirical television programme "That was the week that was". Then he presented a show at London Univeersity Senate House that year and I remember Susannah York was his guest. Yes she was very sexy and left a good empression on m e.

Dame Helen Mirren, Felicity Kendal and Joanna Lumley all fall into the same category.
