Currently have a geni, a big battery 180, a 1,500 w invertor. To buy a charger.

I did get a company to give me a quote for connecting all these items but it was over my budget and yes that was without the use of solar panels. Im just looking for a do it yourself person and wonder how they would set it up. I am reliant on my petrol geni only but I have now invested in a 1,500w invertor and will get a battery charger. My current battery is 180 amper. I did this because I have been advised that I wont have to have my geni on all the time and that I can use some lights, the TV and PC running from the battery only. The solar people said something like they would make a system whereby all this would work from 1 cable coming from the geni but another person has said dont use it like that cos maybe I can switch on something by mistake and burn the inverter.

So would it have a cut off system if I made a mistake. Is it best not to connect and just keep swapping the clips over and have cables all over the floor running to the items I can use off the battery/inverter so no mistake would ever be made.

you need to have a change over switch to do it properly this switch has 1 common connection to your distribution board then there are two more set of connections

One set of connections that connects the kibteck meter cables, the second to your supply from your 180 ampere battery / Genny supply.

This way you can swap over very quickly and safe

Smity thanks...............ha right ok a change over switch..thats what I wondered.

I was using a little 200 inverter before off the same battery with a small charger and was using 2 lamps so I understand what you mean by another 2 sets of connections....you are referring to the red and black clamps that attach to the battery. When I was charging the battery (ie geni on to use some electrical items for 4 hours for example) of course I connected the charger clamps to the battery. When the geni was off I connected the inverter clamps to use a light.

So I assume I would I still need to manually swap over the clamps once Ive altered the change over switch.

I just cant get my ahead around how it works, for example is there any risk that if I forget to unplug the fridge after using it from the geni, will it then automatically work from the inverter by mistake and burn it out?????? Have I got to keep going round and checking all the plugs before I choose the geni/inv.

Eletricity is no joke. The connections has to be made by someone competent. It is impossible for me to advise from a distant. I don't do wiring or installations but I am always happy to help out a technical person who can follow my instructions.
