I know that Guido's have many fans, but are people now too afraid to post anything that is not good about this restaurant??

We all know that Lilli and Guido are truly lovely, friendly people.

I started the post 'best and worst meal, not to cause trouble or to offend but for people to leave reviews, good or bad about restaurants, ultimately people will make up their own minds.

People shouldn't leave bad reviews for the sake of it, please be honest. At the same time, one shouldn't feel intimated about leaving a negative post about a restaurant simply because that particular restaurant has strong support.

Msg 1- I am sure that Lilli and Guido would agree with you as if they make a mistake they are the type of people to learn from it.

Maybe there is just a little more that we do not know about in some posts especialy when it relates to complaints.

Especially when the 'reviewer' may never have been to Guido's or complained direct to them if they had an issue with a meal. The world's best restaurants get complaints - it's how they sort them out that distinguishes the bad from the good and the good from the truly magnificent.

The internet is a very blunt instrument..

Deliberately damaging somebodies livelihood by making unfounded remarks is not the way to go.... is it?

If you are not happy complain there and then and I am sure whatever the problem was it would have been rectified at that time..I do not think a thread should have been started about this....

▶ Do you have indications that people are intimidated on this board?! What a silly thread this is. It looks like coaching people to complain - about Guido's.

But I'll help you. Guido's is a lousy restaurant where many people like to dine without complaints. Happy now?

But you did not ask 'good or bad' - you asked 'best or worst'. Although I have never eaten there, I find it entirely credible that Guidos (like 100 others) is not on anybody's worst list so will not get a bad review on your post. So why pick on Guidos?

In another thread the question of "best and worst" was answered with: "Worst: the Hut - although it has changed hands since". Read it again. How much more damaging can a post be..?!

Han's, that was my honest answer to an honest question - "Best and Worst" was the question and my answer remains the same. It was in no way meant as damaging or I would have phrased it a different way, it was 7 years ago and I did complain at the time to no effect, so what? How damaging can the answer to the Best be when that place has also shut down? I never said why it had closed and never intended to elevate my best above any others.

As previously said - the Internet is a blunt instrument - simple words do not convey the feelings behind them and never will. I do not wish anybody to be put off from going to The Hut and eating there, which is why I also added that it has since changed hands!

Please note that it was a simple question and answered simply - now if the question had also asked for a reason, that is a different story indeed. Half a story is always more interesting don't you feel?

Gotta go with Groucho on this one.

Every restaurant can have an 'off' day, but any complaint should be made to the owners there and then. Hopefully any faults can then be rectified on the spot. If not, then by all means complain to a wider audience.

However, to complain about a restaurant without having even dined there is ridiculous and some might say even malicious.

For the record, I have only eaten at Guidos once but had a good meal with good service.

RE msg 11, fiendishpaul: (...) However, to complain about a restaurant without having even dined there is ridiculous and some might say even malicious. (...)

▶ What a great line! And so adequate for this board! I suggest Izzet make this line a "sticky":

"However, to complain/comment about (a) ___ without having even ___ it/there is ridiculous and some might say even malicious."

Many posters could fill in their own choice of words.

My choice could be: "review" and "read".

If the cap fits...

We've eaten at Guido's and couldn't fault it. Lilli and Guido couldn't do enough for us. The wine was superb and at the right temperature as a red wine should be served. The food was delicious. Would definitely go again. If anyone has a fault, tell them not here. They would certainly put it right.

My feeling Jakki is that you started the original thread about best/worst meal in the hope that someone would say Guido's as their worst so that you could agree with them and relate your obviously bad experience. Otherwise why would you have started this thread? Why do you think that bad reviews are not allowed for Guido's? Really, if you have something to say please just spit it out.

For info, I have only been to Guido's twice but thoroughly enjoyed it both times.

In Customer Service training - we always teach people to value a complaint and to thank the person for bring it to your attention .

That gives you the opportunity to put it right and put into affect systems to ensure that it does not happen again.

I can't understand why anyone would complain about Guido's. Admitadely it is a bit 'clicky' but Lilli and Guido are very nice people. Guido gives me evil looks sometimes for chatting to Lilli on the phone or by email but thats just his Italian blood (or maybe it's me being paranoid ) Ali, the waiter will do you a doorstop of a sandwich, very nice, loads of filling of your choice. |Fillet steaks to die for according to my dad and he used to eat in Michellin star restaurants every day in Belgium.

Long live Guido's

I think is time for me to say something

Jakki, have you ever been in my restaurant?

I don't think so. We never had the pleasure to meet you and I would love to do so you are the best advertiser I ever come across and I thank you for it.

If anybody have any problem with my food we would rectify on the spot. That is why I know you never been.

Clarify why you make such a comment and I would be more then happy to answer.

Guido

Jakki, what are you trying to achieve here? there was a thread about the best and worst places to eat,did you feel let down because Guildos didnt get a bad review? Were you just trying to stir up trouble for them?I have never been there or met them but they do seem to have quite a lot of customers who are happy going there. if you're not happy with them, just dont go there,it seems you are trying to put other people off from going there which i think is very nasty and should feel very ashamed. How would you feel if you were trying to run a place and someone did that to you.?

Hello Lilli -

Firstly, can I just say that I have no hidden agenda whatsoever. Please re-read my question, which I believe is a bona fide one. Oh dear I thought this kind of thing would happen. Can I then just apologise if I have offended anyone.

Don't know what else to say really. Think I will go away from this board and never return. This is my last post.

Jakki

Only a coward walks away once they have had their say:

you state: 'are people now too afraid to post anything that is not good about this restaurant??'

= obviously not - so there is the answer to your question.

I have eaten at Quido's and not only do the meals and service live up to expectations (and mine are high) but also, being a Customer Service Trainer/Assessor, I like the flexibility which they build into the service.

My elderly relatives felt they could not eat a whole meal - they asked them what they liked and wanted and adjusted the meal to suit them with less of the foods they did not want.

When my Grandsons wanted Pizza early in the day, Quido was out stocking up after christmas, Lilli sent out for Pizzas for them. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE - Give the customer more that their expectations not just meeting them.

I can't believe someone would start a thread like this, What is it about,, pick a victim. or are you scared of the big bad wolf scenario.

The couple are trying to run a business out here,, not an easy task by all means

I also think taste is about personal preference, Italian,Indian,Chinese,Turkish some people may like the food, some may not,

some may prefer one restaurant, some another. So is it the restaurant or a personal thing against the owners that drives people to post about them.

It was quite understandable to me but I am an old hand at reading forums and after all, English is not your first language so I will punctuate the post for you and correct the English where appropriate to at least make it comprehensible for you I hope. (I am not claiming that the following is perfect English by the way)

I have not met either Lilli or Guido, not having been to their restaurant ever. from these boards it seems to me that:

a) Lilli is a very generous hearted person, (Guido to for supporting her and so many causes)

b) a number of people like the food and service in their restaurant.

Does this make it impossible for someone not to enjoy their particular experience on one occasion? No

Can that person mention that experience on here without fear of being hounded? Yes, providing they articulate the experience and why they found it not to their liking in a clear manner.

Should that person have spoken to the proprietors at the time? Yes

Should anyone try to put over their experience by starting cryptic threads and waiting to join in in complaining about the business? No, if you do you will attract the very reaction you were trying to avoid.

Stay on the board, speak your mind truthfully and clearly with no malice aforethought and you will be fine.
