Not so far on the HD box but trying to watch the snooker on Sunday night was impossible on the Sky+ box, currently waiting for Iceman to weave his magic and fix it.

Hi Gooligan this link: https://mysky.sky.com/replacecard/get-a-card will take folk STRAIGHT to the Freesat from SKY card ordering page.... Bear in mind 1/ you MUST supply a UK address... 2/ not wise to connect from a Cyprus IP addy.. better connect to a UK VPN, first ! ;) 3/ Even if you took out the card / don't have one - you'd have got the BBC stuff and ITV 1 and ITV HD1 and channel 4 - you CAN get FIVE - without a card - by adding 10773 H 22000 5/6.. Channels like FIVE USA, FIVE USA +1, FIVER, FIVER +1 Channel 4 HD and Sky 3 'appear' if you have a valid Freesat from SKY card and the ITV you'll see depends on the postcode from which you order Bear in mind that IF you order from ( say) a WEST region ( Bristol / Glos area ) you'll be fine for BBC / ITV on a 4.2m .. but if you try channel 101 on a N.Ireland card you'll get no sat signal received on BBC1 and ITV1 .. :( Many regions will require you to go to 974 (BBC Lon) and add ITV1 freq 11973

(cont) bear in mind this applies to a well installed 4.2m... on a 1.8m you WON'T get BBC1-4, BBC Radio 5 live / sports extra and unless you are lucky - will need to manually ADD CHANNELS to get ITV1 on 11973 V 27500 2/3

re msg 13 David9 NO.. :( You have to have a SKY+ subscription - if you have a 4.2m - get a Humax HD Foxsat PVR - tune it in to a region where Five is in clear..( They ask for a postcode in set up) e.g West region ( Bristol) ... Tuning into London will mean FIVE is scrambled ! :(

Thanks Gooligan, most useful. Few queries: 1. Does a SKY HD box just take an HD card, or a normal SKY card, ether, or has 2 slots for 2 cards? (I've never seen a SKY HD box, excuse my ignorance. 2. I have a normal SKY box here with a normal SKY card (uk address etc. Will THIS card work in a SKY HD box? 3 . When you say you got your freeview card from SKY (HD or SD, see Q1 above) was it a replacement card (if so replacing what?), or a first time purchase card? Thanks, Geoff Famagusta City

Geoff. 1. Sky cards work in a "standard", "plus" or "HD" receiver. Basically there is no difference. You only need one card. 2. If you buy an HD box, you will need to telephone Sky and they will ask you for info re: your new receiver. Then your existing card will work. Make sure you do not let Sky see your TRNC number that you dial from! 3. Gooligan will answer this one, but a friend had a dish installed and connected it to his old sky box. As his card was registered to his old UK address, and it was not the new white card, he could not use this card, so therefore, he ordered one of these twenty pound jobbies. I think used another UK address.

Geoff,go to https://mysky.sky.com/replacecard/ and click on 'get a card' Then where it says Enter you sky viewing card number, click on Dont have a viewing card....thats underneath the box and then fill in the details, you must have a UK address and cards take about 3 days to come. If you have a Skype account you can set it up so that it shows,ie a UK mobile number when ringing the UK and use that to ring Sky.

Texas and Gooligan: Many thanks for that, I found my old reesat card and have ordered a replacement which wlll go to my daughter's UK address, and so out to me. I am trying to source an HD box, in which I can then use the Freesat card to get the channels you listed in your original posting. I gather the HD box (once paired to the Freesat card) will receive SD and HD Freesat channels - Correct?? OR, I could I suppose upgrade my existing subscription card to include HD services (for extra £10 pcm) and use THAT card in the HD box, and use the Freesat card in the standard (SD) SKY box, with a twin LNB to watch one and tape another - Correct?? I think I am getting there. Incidentally, my old (blue) Freesat card was bought in 2007 at the then special price of £8. Geoff Famagusta City p.s. I have a 2.4m dish. The HD box is to get some channels I cannot get on SD because the SD version is on the 2D satellite, whereas the HD versions are on 2A/B/C

Geoff I don't think your old blue card will work, especially as you have now ordered a replacement, which will be white. If you buy an HD box and want to watch programmes in HD, you will have to pay Sky their minimum subscription, about £20 plus £10 for HD, per month. HD is a minimum term of 1 year with a minimum package, even if the box is not subsidised. Also, unsubsidised boxes do NOT need to be plugged into a UK landline! Try here for HD box: http://www.satbuyer.co.uk/amstrad-drx895-sky+hd-digibox-1-5tb-p116.html

Hi Texas. Correct, the old blue SKY Freesat card won't work anymore, which is why I have now ordered a free (white) replacement as per you/Gooligan's kind instructions. In addition, I ALREADY have a regular white SKY Subscription card that I am using here, £24 pcm. Both cards are on UK addresses, different ones. I checked SKY's website about upgrading my existing white card to HD, and they want to charge me £10.25 pcm for it, but also another £10.25 pcm for the SKY+ facility, which would bring my monthly sub up to £45. How can I get SKY to upgrade my card to HD, but NOT also buy the SKY+ upgrade? I cannot apparently do it on line, can I do it by phoning them? If so what number do I call?? (noted about withholding my TRNC number if/when I do that. Thanks for your patience, Geoff Famagusta City

Geoff Until you have an HD box, do not upgrade your "Channels" to HD. (It's not the card that gets upgraded). I suppose Sky cannot understand someone wanting HD without Sky plus. Someone else may know if they charge £10 for HD and £10 for Sky plus. I am not sure. Below is an extract from my next bill. As you can see, there is only one charge for both Sky+ and HD: Sky+ Subscription 28/01/11 - 27/02/11 £0.00 Sky+HD Pack 28/01/11 - 27/02/11 £10.25 I also think you want to have 2 boxes working off the same dish at the same time with different cards? This will not be a problem, but you can get a "quad" lnb, which means the HD box (with Sky+) will enable you to record two channels at the same time (cannot spell simultaneously!) or record one and watch the other AND also have a "feed" to your other basic box, as well as a spare for a neighbour!

Re-reading your email I think that asking for each item seperately would incur the charges you mentioned. However, if you combined them, I believe that they would only charge you once, i.e. £10.25 for both Sky+ and HD.

Thanks Texas. I was not going to upgrade yet, I was just checking the whole thing out first before I spend any money! I have now got the picture, thanks tio you and Gooligan - once again many thanks both for all your help and advice. Very Best Regards, From, Geoff in Famagusta.
