Has any one any information on creditwest. We are moving over next week and have opened an account with them. Have we done the right thing or could we do better - not on rates but on security Thanks

Hi, I use HSBC myself, easy to transfer between UK ac and CY acc via internet. They do not offer the best rates around but offer easy access to money. Always long queues unless you get there between 8.30 - 9 am

You should use a variety of banks so that not all your eggs are in one basket. Now would appear to be a bad time to buy into YTL as it is very strong. 2.22. not long ago a UKP would have bought you 3 YTL. We really like the Iktisatbank as they have an English speaking department and we make sure that any account is below the limit beyond which state guarantees cease to apply. We also like TEB which is part of BNP Parisbas Group so it's very safe (being subject to EU governance regulations and guarantees rather than local banking rules)

Turtle, if you are talking about UK to TRNC and you do not have a Premier account then the charge is £10. If you have Premier accounts then there is no charge.

£10 the last time I transferred something. We have an HSBC account but have also opened one with IktisatBank and agree with Groucho's comments . HSBC is a very busy place (Kyrenia Branch, Nicosia is OK) although to be fair their online banking is very good and we rarely have to go anywhere near the Branch office.

Personally use HSBC as the conduit for our cash flow to get benefits of internet transfers etc. Do not be put of be the regular comments of being busy. Use common sense and do not go to branch at the times you would not go in the UK. ie, early morning, lunchtime and mid/late afternoons. If you are not employed then it is not difficult to avoid the busy times. As for finding best and being secure are 2 most important things. Invest your primary source of cash in a secure environment and then go to the higher risk banks, one of those being Credit West. Remember that you are only covered to 20,000 euro on any account in the case of bank collapse.

fire starter, You are even more cynical than I am!!!!!!!!! It all depends on how much of a gambler you are and if you have that cash to gamble with. My own view is the banks now are safe enough to invest your high risk money in but remember the source of the funds if a bank does go bust is the government. DOHHHH, the government is bankrupt!!

cyprusishome cynical maybe, but why would you gamble with your hard earned cash? i am just not stupid enough to risk my future in a trnc bank. everyone to their own if your a gambler go for it! if not keep it off shore where you know it is safe with a reputable bank, who are guided by rules and regulations. there is a saying : if it sounds to good to be true it probably is! greed with get you!
