Yesterday, a local Turkish Cypriot in ~Girne from a well respected long established family thought to take his wife and baby son over to a football maltch. Wrong decision. At a set of traffic lights near the stadium their car was pelted with cans. Nearly broke the glass - but fortunately the lights were green and they shot over the lights. Where were the police? Bet they knew these hooligans were up to a pre-determined no good. The TC family here have sdaid 'Never again' and to the Geneva talks the message from this family is, sadly 'We cannot live side by side.' Hope the U.N. get that message! Why oh why do these uneducated, prejudiced, biased young people act as they do?

Oh dear, Speedster, I can't agree with this. I know many ordinary Greek Cypriots who had friends who were Turkish Cypriots, and vice versa. The Book ';The End of Friendship' tells it all - how the man in the street was misled by leaders such as Makarios. But where the hatred in the yhoung comes from I don't know. They are taught it - but by whom? The system? And unfortunately, I know many Turkish Cypriots who do not want to be a state of Turkey. They are CYPRIOTS first and foremost. How do you feel Speedster? What IS the answer? Whatever happens it is a bit scary because of the politics, economics, and even the anthropology of it all. And the saddest thing is that the Christian south does not seem to know the first two basics of the Christian faith - of such hatred could not possibly exist.

I agree Gina, and I am spreading the word. The story was actually told to me today. It might have been in the news on telly, but I doubt it. However, Star Kibris will be talking to them today or tomorrow to get the story out, and I am sending the news to London. BRT has been informed. Of course, there might have been others who were treated as badly who may have informed the police. I know only of this family. But it really does not bode well for the future. And to Speedster, what can I say. I know of many people such as yourself. But I also knew Greek Cypriots from Morphou (Guzelyurt) who were nice ordinary folk who had tales to tell and who also still have nightmares. It is the ordinary folk who suffer for the 'authorities' greed and power drunk aspirations. What a world?

It was another big match, and if you read another thread a local policeman in plain clothes was dragged from his car and stabbed! All because he was wearing the opposing team's colours. APOEL have a lot to answer for. The GC young 'thugs' killing their own and all in the name of sport! Our local family were obviously being protected by Allah and his angels. In the case of the policeman, the door was opened of his car - again at traffic lights, but don't know if it was the same set. And as some TC's were saying 'We don't b ehave like that, but if anyone is attacked, what can you do?' and I agreed. I am a pacifist, but come to kill my children and then see what I am made of!'
