Yesterday there was yet another fatal accident here in Alsancak, two people were killed, one of them a five month old baby girl. It appear that due to excessive speed a driver lost control of his car and crashed into a taxi killing the taxi driver and the baby. When are people going to realise that speed kills, and when are the police going to take some control over the appalling standard of driving, how many more people must die before something is done.

Again nothing will happen as everyone seems to believe that its Gods will.

Sad but true, as the police dont even enforce the easy ones like wearing crash helmet on motorbikes.

A sad fact is that more people have been killed in road accidents throughout the world in the last 100 years than in ALL wars, incl WW1 & WW2.

Currently about 1.3m die every year with another 25m injured. India being the worst with 150,000 deaths per year.

The highest number of deaths are in 2nd/3rd world countries where driving standards are non existent.

I have been told that in India and many African countries, to get a full driving licence, you have to be able to start a vehicle, drive 100yds and stop.

Turkey and N Cyprus are apparently about halfway down the 'list'.

Not much consolation I know!

they drive like maniacs, harsher rules or more severe sentencing should be brought it. this might stop people from driving the way they do.

The simple answer is that they won't.

Many of the answers are staring the authorities in the face i.e. compulsory wearing of crash helmets on motorcycles/scooters and compulsory wearing of seatbelts (front and rear where fitted). If the government were serious about curbing the amount of deaths and injuries on the roads, these two laws could be passed in a matter of days/weeks - all it takes is the will to do it. Better driving tuition, stricter tests and better policing would also contribute to safer roads for everyone.

Just my opinion of course.

Totally agree Paul, it never seems to be a problem introducing new laws so why not tackle this now and try to stop this waste of life.

It wont happen, they wont bring in new laws.

Even if they do bring in new laws nobody will enforce them.

Even if they enforce them the locals will not be charged and brought to Court.

Even if the locals are brought to court they will be found not guilty.

Even if they are found guilty they will not be only fined.

If they are fined........this is getting silly..
