Anyone wanting to join together to form a group for transfers to and from Sabiha Gokcen Airport and the track on race day (8 May)?

There are Dolmuses (shared taxis) to Taxim square on the European side for only about a fiver each. that is what I would go for. Walk away from the car park and wait till you pass a minibus with someone shoutng Taxim

Worked for me.

Hi Stephen – GP Istanbul 2011

Flight prices right now are around £63.00 / £69.00 for the same day return ECN SAW ECN they can easily go in excess of £84.00 (the highest being £252.00). (We would be happy to reserve them.)

This using flights leaving ETD 07.10 returning ETA 22.55

If there is a group of 16 or more then we can get special group rates for you.

Transfers to and from the Istanbul airport (SAW) will be quite pricey on the day around £55.00 each based on three people but if you can make a larger group that should prove more economic.

There is a good bus service direct to the venue using bus lanes about 3 YTL. Don't try any other method or you will be in the queue!!!!

thanks for that richez. we presumed there would be buses for such a big event so its good that you confirmed that for us as we haven't been before. do you know what time they are likely to start running in the morning as the flight to istanbul will be early?

Yes they run early but if it is anything like last year there are no supporting races and you will wait a long time for the race to start with very little to do. That side of Turkey is dry (beer free) and it costs 15 ytl a can at the venue. If you are away from the Grandstand you don't get a clue what is going on as there are no big TV screens or position boards. We were up by turn 8 on the bank which was a good viewing area but still missed the Red Bull fiasco and Lewis + Jenson battling it out. Take something to sit on and a parasol!!!

cyprusquest, understand sabiha airport is only 4km from race venue so transfer should be fairly quick depending on frequency of buses. thanks again richez for your valuable advice.

News today this might be the last Istanbul Grand Prix so if you want to party IAH will offer a group of more than five Cyprus44 members a discount on our 2011 trips (normally for 12+)

If you do get there, there is (or wasn't last year) any promotional stuff for sale, like T shirts etc....If you hang about the back of the main grandstand after the race, you can buy the vendors promo stuff (new) for next to nothing,T shirts and baseball caps.

The marshalls also sell their bibs as you go out over the bridges to the bus and car park areas,I got 3 bibs and T shirts last year for about 20 tl each.

its not a problem to get to Istanbul Park from Sabiha Gokcen airport, as there are loads of yellow taxis outside, and you can get to right outside the park for about 15TL.

The problem is on the way back to the airport, as all of the roads are closed for taxis, and a lot of the drivers who we flagged down after walking along the road for a while don't want to go for such a short journey to the airport, as they want long distance passengers, e.g to Istanbul.

Does anyone know where you have to go straight AFTER the race to get a guaranteed taxi or guaranteed bus back to Sabiha Gokcen airport please?
