Purdie ............I have the Wi-Fi version of the Kindle which i would recommend. It works fine in North Cyprus. All you need is access to Wi-Fi and you can download a book in less than 60 seconds . You have to open an account with Amazon before you can download .

Hubby has just brought a Kindle wi-fi back and loves it. Will get one for me when I am next back in the UK.

You might be interested to hear that today Amazon has announced that they've sold more electronic books than paper back books for the very first time. A sign of changing times!

If you buy the kindel 3G you wont need a wi fi connection and it uses the local phone 3G at no cost to you,to recieve books in 30 secs.

Kindle via Amazon is brilliant, according to the wife. No problems downloading books or viewing them.

Only gripe from me is she won't let any of her 'book/books' go to create some bookshelf space. Something about needing the tactile contact on occasion.

Why not wait a little as tablet computers are getting better and will probably soon have better battery life (the main advantage to an e-book reader like Kindle)

If you get a tablet running Android you can download a lot of useful applications including e-book readers and Kindle the reader too. Giving more selection (free and paid books) not tying you to one source.

Rick Msg 6 - I agree with her and why buy a book you own twice (when you want to read it again).

Some tablet computers can run Android and Windows nice as a laptop replacement

It is so like reading a paper book I keep trying to turn the page

if you want to download books from your UK public library for free, like I do, then you need an ereader that takes epub format.
