It may well be, but what is certain is that it's IQ/Vocabulary/Spelling will be better than yours. What else do you expect when you define yourself by the size of your tackle? Sad Bugger or what?

Dear DN Thank you for the timely reminder as to why I don't come onto the forum often. Comments such as yours (even if they are in jest) don't improve the understanding or view others make of the TRNC do they?

How many people consider Turkey, and by association TRNC, to be part of the "Arab World" ?

cronos Thanks for bringing the thread back on topic. For me I do not regard Turkey or the TRNC as being part of the 'Arab World' and I also do not regard them as being part of the 'European World' and that is why they are well placed to take what ever situation that suits them. That is why Turkey is regarded by other outside influences as being essential to bridging the gap between Europe and Middle East/Asia. I think that a lot of people do not understand the power that Turkey can and will hold in the future. They have become a major gateway in the oil and gas industry between the East and the West. Turkey is a major economy and they are already stating that membership of the EU is not essential for them. AJ

according to the currency speculators, the Turkish Lira's fortunes are firmly linked to the Middle East - 2.56TL/£1 at the moment. That's a 20% drop since November.

My only hope is that Egypt follows Tunisia and establishes democracy, although how democratic Tunisia will be remains to be seen. Once we have that perhaps it could spread to the other corrupt Arab dictatorships, but judging by what Obama said today, I think it is wishful thinking. It is not in the American interest to have democracy in any country, only dictatorships which can be controlled.

malsancak in November the pound was at 2.30 ish to the Pound so it is about 10% change, you are correct in that since about October last year it has steadily weakened against the Pound, will be interesting to see if this trend continues.

Pugwash, you're right, I've got a 2.64 TL/£ figure in my head - wishful thinking. Should have checked with Google Finance instead of using 2.20TL/£1 as the base.

Any increase in £ against TL always seems to be matched by immediate price rises by local business. If the prices decreased when the £ weakens it would be easier to bear.
