Sorry to rain on your parade sunshineheave, most people can unlock IPhones by themselves, just google it in youtube, takes 15 minutes. Step by step instructions.

mmmmmm.

If you are getting that message,, I'm pretty sure that the phone is still locked or you did an update.

Once the phone is unlocked, you cant do the update in Itunes, it will lock it up and need unlocking again.

Hope that helped.

Hi Turbo

sorry if I confused you - or anyone.. but isn't that the whole point?.. If you 'unlock' the iPhone - you can render it 'useless'..

I have had an unlocked Iphone since they first came out, once a year I will do the update and then re-unlock it.

If you set your Itunes to "Sync"manually, works without a hitch.

Now the Iphone 4 is a different story.

Turbo - the iPhone 4 is available unlocked in so many parts of the world now (Americans ordering from Canadian Apple store, Europeans from UK and France etc) that I don't see why anyone would not want to spend that extra £40-50 on a factory unlocked model. It's not like there is a problem with jailbreaking, it's just the unlock that is tethered. I've also had every version of the iPhone and once you accept that there is no way to actually "brick" (or render it useless) the thing, dealing with any unlocking/jailbreaking issues is as easy as reading a few tutorials..

AllyTT, I wasnt aware of Canada, a friend was going to bring me one from Australia, they are sold factory unlocked and work great everywhere, the cost would have been $700 US, I thought I would wait a bit.

Here in the US, there has been talk that Verizon might be introducing them too. Right now we are held hostage to ATT, the only ones contracted to sell Iphones. Their plans cost an arm and a leg.
