Why have I no faith in this new initiative? Probably because all the TRNC needs is a change in the current conveyancing laws. If they truly wished to promote confidence and safeguard house purchase then they would introduce workable legislation that did just this. Instead all we see is part-baked ideas that have no legal clout. If they think this will restore their spiraling property industry, then they are wrong. How about doing something constructive about giving people their deeds once they have paid in full? How about making sure that registration of property takes precedence over memorandums? How about speeding up PTP's? and I could go on and on...... Well lets all sit back and see who the first advocate will be to fall fowl of this "new law" Any bets?

"The expats have never taken legal action against advocates for compensation. What are they scared of?" Being ripped off by their new advocate? Being unable to find a competent advocate willing to sue one of their own? Being asked to put up extortionate fees with no limit or guarantee of success? A complete lack of faith in the TRNC legal system? Lack of funds having been conned out of their life savings through corruption?

As soon as people have learned the hard way in the TRNC that advocates have no duty of care, then what are you supposed to sue your advocate for? The whole corrupt system stinks, yet as Bradus says the necessary legislation needed to overhaul the syatem and restore confidence would be relatively easy to draft and implement. Unfortunately there is no political will to do so...it would derail the gravy train for the powers that be and their cronies. This "offer" by the TRNC Bar Association is just yet another cynical platitude to make it look like they actually care and are getting their act together. It is just paying lip service so that the blinkered supporters of all things TRNC can convince themselves, and try to convince others, that positive moves are afoot. Don't hold your breath !
