Anyone one know if you can get large bags - 10kg or so - of salt granules that can be used in domestic water softeners and dishwashers. Could get large bags in UK from plumbers merchants. Just got new machine and wondering if they are available here. Thanks for any help.

You need large granule salt for dishwashers otherwise the salt can cake-up and prevent the softener from working properly. Sea salt granules are good... but fine powder type salt, like the fine salt put in table salt dispensers, is not suitable. Batgirl, what type of salt is it? It's very cheap, good to know.

Tks for the replies. That sea salt looks a great price. As it is large granules, could it be used in a dishwasher then? TIA

Absolutely Scoty... I've been using big bags of food grade large-granule salt for years and it's perfect for the job.

Never mind directions to the city. Off to Lambousa fish tanks with my bucket and spade. Sea salt there at the right time of year and the "locals" go getting it. Hadn't thought of trying it in the dishwasher before, so thanks I will give it a go.
