| With winds of up to 300kph it's not looking very good for Queensland, it's a category 5 the highest you can get, and after it hits the coast it will travel up to 500klm inland,1000klm of coastline are at risk, every person along the coast has been told to leave everything and get out, all cyclone shelters are now full and they are turning people away, this is going to be a disaster, because they have never seen anything like this in their lives, Robert |

| This is really serious 'aussiejock' - I had a coupla years working in Mackay, but never experienced anything like this - 10" of rain in 10 minutes was enough of a bit of a shock. The problem with a cyclone is that it sucks doors and windows OUT - this happened during a medium strength blow, to my garage double doors in NZ. |

| the eye of the cyclone is 35km and it will take over an hour to pass, it will hit around 11pm Oz time, in about 5 hrs, they are using the large shopping centres as shelter and the army are giving out food rations, most people just packed up and left their homes with no provisions, I just hope it's not a disaster, we thought about living in Cairns, but the wet season put us off. | A cyclone is no different than a hurricane apart from location. Hurricane (Atlantic), Typhoon (Indian), Cyclone (pacific ocean). All being trs's (tropical revolving storms). |

| This is what a Category 5 may do, Category Five winds greater than 155 mph Complete roof failure on many residences and industrial buildings. Some complete building failures with small utility buildings blown over or away. Major damage to lower floors of all structures located less than 15 feet ASL and within 500 yards of the shoreline. Massive evacuation of residential areas on low ground within 5 to 10 miles of the shoreline may be required. I hope everyone can stay safe. |
