I have decided that I would like to buy a veg juicer however I don't really know where to start. I don't want to spend too much on one initially until I have tried one out to see if it will be money well spent or another piece of 'kitchen cupboard' equipment, never to see the light of day! Those of you who have one; what would you advise to look out for? I also would like one that is easy to clean. I would appreciate any comments. Thanks

Thanks gooligan, is it easy to take apart and clean? I bought a fruit juicer once and never checked to see how easy it was to clean and ended up throwing it out as it grew mouldy!

scoobydoo I would agree with the other posters the Jack Laine is a brill juicer, my only problem is that fruit in England is so expensive. The fruit juice can have all sorts of hidden goodees put in it like sprigs of broccoli, cabbage cores juiced into the apple or orange etc, something a child may choose not to eat can be snuck in. I have used the pulp for cakes too Lilli.

A tip for apple's,core and peel them first, the juice you can either drink (or in my case brew it into cider) and the pulp makes perfect pies and crumble's.

Good tips from everyone, thank you. I need to get more veggies in me and I really do not like most of them especially the green leafy ones that are meant to be very good for you. Most days I struggle to get my '5' eaten and thought this may well be a good option. Liz, is yours at home or in the restaurant? If it is in the restaurant, may I pop in and see it? Thankyou.

If and when I buy one I will be back on this forum looking for recipes! Do you all find that you use your juicer often or is it one of those things that initially it was used alot but then hardly ever?

Jack Lelanne is the tops, it kept him healthy too, he died last week aged 96! Not bad to clean, we juice tons of stuff, and yes, when the kids come we pop in brocolli, they do not notice, beetroot is a good oone also. We all know about the benefits of pomegranates, they are good for juicing and once you get the hang of it you can get the seeds out in a jiffy. We use ours about 3 or 4 times every week. Had it for years.

I have duodenal ulcer and have discovered that juicing raw potatoes gives very quick relief, and aids my digestion. I only have to do this periodically, it lasts for several days.

Sorry, but I am back with another question! Are any of you juicing leafy green vegetables? I have been trying to do some research on the internet and so far it seems that most juicers up to £100 or so will not juice leafy green veg because the juicers are not 'masticating' juicers. Pugwash - I have been in Argos today and saw an Arnica juicer for 90tl, is this the one you have and do you juice leafy greens?

Yes I have the Arnica one and another centrifugal one from Arcelik but they don't do leafy greens that well, they will do them but you don't get as much juice

Thanks Pugwash for coming back on this, really do appreciate it. I have looked at the price of the 'masticating' juicers and they are very expensive and seen as I am new at this I want to spend as little as possible for a fairly reasonable juicer to see how I get on with it as the hubby will go nuts if I purchase another kitchen appliance that will end up decorating the inside of the cupboard!

The centrifugal ones are ok but need dedication and a lot of cleaning, they work well for a mixture of fruit and veg especially hard fruit, apples pears etc but I don't use them for citrus as they make a very "foamy" juice which i do not like so much so I have a citrus juicer too.

Thanks Pugwash, I have citrus juicer so I will hang to that after your valuable comment above, appreciate that. I really need something that will do the veg for health reasons and my lack of eating veg. Maybe I will have to buy a 'masticator'!

Many thanks everyone for so many responses. I think for immediate availability I will head down to Argus in Karakum as theirs is only 90tl, and I can use it as a 'starter juicer', I can test it out and see how much use I will get out of it or whether it will end up decorating the inside of the kitchen cupboard. The Jack lalanne does sound good but I want a juicer now!! Janjin, I will take on board what you said about juicing onions!!!
