President Derviş Eroğlu expressed the need for the Greek Cypriot Side to be motivated for a settlement. Speaking during a visit paid to him yesterday, President Derviş Eroğlu evaluated the latest developments on the Cyprus Issue.

President Derviş Eroğlu complained that the Greek Cypriot Side had arrived at the Geneva meeting unprepared and without a practical plan as instructed earlier by the UN Secretary General.

He said that the Turkish Side was not satisfied with the Geneva meeting because it had failed to yield any concrete results which would show where the process was heading.

Stating that the TRNC had expectations from the EU, Eroğlu said that the Greek Cypriots perceived the Turkish Side as desperate for a solution and were thus running away from a solution at the negotiation table.

He said that he had conveyed to the UN Secretary General the need for EU officials to takes steps aimed at encouraging the Greek Cypriot Side towards an agreement.

The President will be briefing parliament next Monday on the Geneva summit.

This, or any, TRNC government needs to wake up to the fact that the GC's, or EU, will never be prepared to take on the financial burden that Turkey is lumbered with - simple as!

Hence the continuing embargo - in perpetuity, it would seem!
