Software giant Microsoft has warned Internet Explorer users of newly-discovered loophole in the programming that could be used by cyber criminals to steal personal information such as credit card details.

The loophole can allow hackers to create script that could spoof content and disclose personal information on the affected website on the behalf of the targeted user.

Microsoft warns that the security hole affects nearly 900 million users of the IE web browser.

Speaking on the issue, Microsoft representative Angela Gunn said, "Such a script might collect user information, e. g. e-mail, spoof content displayed in the browser or otherwise interfere with the user's experience."

Credit card details, which are used for making millions of worth of online purchases, are also at risk. However, so far there is no report of any active exploitation of the vulnerability.

The software firm has already released a temporary fix to defend against attacks. But, it will take some time fo

Saneev - Please do not worry people. Although your sorce is correct.

1] The patch is available and can be downloaded if users just update their Internet Explorer and or windows operating system (such as XP) - They should do this update on a frequent basis (daily?) anyway. It will come down automaticaly. - If their OS programs etc are not legitimate that might not happen!

2] If the site has https or and the closed padlock sign it should be secure and unless you have a keylogger or similar problem should be very secure.

For example https://sslrelay.com/bookings.iah-holidays.co.uk/iahhol......................

Saneev Msg 3 - many people who use this forum might have trouble with downloading and setting up another browser - it could be due to connection speeds or just lack of knowledge.

Unless you want to set up a class and help them for nothing to set up a new system.

Meanwhile also making sure that they have full NOT copied or cloned software with legitimate keys supplied by the manufacturer (usually Microsoft) with the disk then please do not ask them to do something out of their reach.

I saw the information you copied on the BBC yesterday but assumed that most Cyprus44 users would have auto-updating so would not have a problem.

IE is widely used and understood even though it is Microsoft and most information that will get to the users will only apply to it. To ask people to change to Chrome Firefox Opera etc when what I suggested is simple, easy & available seems a little silly.

To worry anyone as a start is not particularity nice without telling them how to resolve the problem.

Umair Msg 9- Many thanks.

We are UK based and our computer engineer has full authority with a remote system to access all of our machines - He has to be very careful as many of our proprietary systems are solely developed for the travel industry and for business use they are rather specialist have high security to protect us / our customers and are sometimes fragile so we will keep to his services - but I appreciate the offer.

@flight holiday. I really think you've come down a bit hard on msg 1. This is obviously important information for anyone that uses IE, and a lot of people might not know it. As you said, some people aren't computer literate which means they may not have auto patching and such on. They do need to know this so they can update it.
