| http://www.joelscoins.com/new2.htm#nocyprus This unofficial 2010 eight coin set from Northern Cyprus includes 4 bi-metallic coins. Northern Cyprus was created after a Greek attempt to sieze control of Cyprus in 1974 was met with a military intervention by Turkey. Turkish forces gained control of the northern third of the island and created the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Northern Cyprus has not received international recognition and attempts to re-unify the island have met with repeated failure. The obverse of each of the eight coins features the arms of North Cyprus. The reverses feature native animals and plants. The bi-metal 5 Lira features the famed Cypriot Mouflon. A dove is on the bi-metal 2 1/2 Lira. The bi-metal 1 Lira features a butterfly. The 5, 10, 25 and bi-metal 50 Kurus feature native plants. A crescent moon and a star from the national flag is on the 1 Kurus. It is an attractive set from a nation that has thus far not issued any coins. |
