My friend from Karsiyaka has just given me their Dongal/Dongle, this was not suitable for them in their little area and they went back to extend. My question is, can I use this Dongle or is it registered to their phone number and possibly cannot be changed to my number/computer? It would be a great help if anyone has experience of this. Many thanks

Hi, I am not a 'techie' person but when I top up my Dongle, I give my phone number and the confirmation comes to that number so, my guess is that you do. However, I think you can use it on any computer as we have 2 laptops and it works on both.

Provided you have their passcode, you need a top-up from somewhere like Lemar Karakum for a month, Lemar will text you the next months passcode, install the dongle (it has on board software for any PC), use the sms message to send the passcode to 1111 and you will be away and running. Here at Bahceli we share one dongle between two PC's, and between us on the web about 6 hours a day each for Skype etc, use up our allotted 90tl worth in about 30 days. TonyE

elkiton are you saying that if you do not change the passcode number that the one who gave it, is able to access your computer ? What if someone else knows your passcode number ? are they able to swap numbers about ?. Someone set ours up for us and I have no idea on how to change the number or if it was new in the first place. Thanks for any help. Spider,X

Sorry if I was not clear...The dongle comes with it's own security passcode to make sure that if you lose it nobody else can access it. ours is a 4 digit number. Usually we only have to enter it if we change it to a different PC, however as we are now networking the 2 PC's together, the dongle sits on one of them full time and we just start the software when we start the PC, then use the dongle menu to connect.. When you buy some more internet "time" ie 90tl for 10 GB, then they give / text you a longer number which you then use the SMS facility in the dongle once connected, to send this (new) monthly passcode to 1111 and your "account" at Turkcell is activated and you can connect. When you use it all up ie exceed the 10gb or whatever you bought, or go past the 30 days, you repeat the purchase and send them at 1111 your new passcode, ditto.

The person who gave me the dongle gave me also all the paperwork, the password etc and as he is my mate I know his phone number. Just wondered whether it is OK to do it?

Hi, Deniz, The Turkcell dongle has different monthly capacities, my neighbour buys a 4GB/month at (I think) 60 tl. I need 10GB for the both of us at 90tl as we use it quite a bit, not having a telly it is our main source of news. Dongles have been bought and sold before, there is no "licence" as far as I am aware, once you have it in your possession then plug it in and the onboard software should bring it up and running once Windows discovers it. Have you ever seen one in use before? If not drop me a line and I will chat to you about using it. Best regards TonyE

| Good question, The Dongle is essentially a Turkcell mobile sim card fitted into a USB modem, it only dials one place and that is Turkcell as the internet Provider when you wish to connect to the 'net. There used to be the option of an initial yearly paid-up contract with a free dongle if you paid 12 month in advance...don't know about monthly contract account though, but a top up expires in 30 days whether you use it all or not, or sooner if you exceed your paid bandwidth..
