All eyes have turned to the Cyprus negotiations process now that the Geneva summit has been concluded. The first meeting to be held between the two leaders on the Cyprus issue has been scheduled for next week, here’s more.

President Derviş Eroğlu and the leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Dimitris Christofias will be coming together next week on the 9th of February, it was announced yesterday.

The meeting will be the first to take place following last week’s tripartite summit in Geneva.

President Derviş Eroğlu’s special representative Kudret Özersay and Dimitris Christofias’ aide Yorgos Yakovu will also be meeting tomorrow ahead of next week’s meeting.

Tomorrow’s meeting is expected to take place at 10 am.

During the tripartite summit in Geneva, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon called on the two sides to establish bridges on chapters where divergences remain.

according to reports from south cyprus,

great efforts have been expended in producing a "file of cyprus"

detailing events on the island 1967-1974

...apparently the story is how they held it and somehow lost it

(or as a cynic may say "totally lost it")

does anyone know anything more about this weighty document?

eg what it is for, how it can be used, and why 1967 was selected?

1967 is when our cousins in the south were at their most devilish. They fired on their own policeman and used it as an excuse to attack Kofunye with 22 people killed including a black disable man who was burned.

The Greek Cypriots have a lot of soul searching for this period as it was totally unprovoked. They wanted to get to 74 in 67. It was only Turkish threats of invasion and a few napalm bombs which convinced them to stop at Kofunye but they tasted blood and liked it, which lead them sheepishly to 74. The rest is known history because they suffered. What has always been suppressed is the oppression they implemented on the enclaved Turkish Cypriots. My own aunt died because it took UN a week to arrange an ambulance to take her to Hospital in Nicosia in 67. It is just as well there are some of us still alive that remember those terrible years they inflicted on us. May those who were in power rot in hell.
