I used Fontana in July. The car was a bit battered, but that didnt bother me as any scratches I may add would be unnoticed

Cosyt, Welcome. This really is an old chestnut. My advice would be for you to look on this forum and pick up the various debates that have taken place over this issue.A lot of companies on the Greek side will tell you that you cannot travel over the border simply because they dont want you spending money in the "dark side" as they like to call it. When we used to holiday in the south we travelled over on many occasions with no problems what so ever. The only stumbling block being. When you get your insurance at the border you will only be covered for third party whilst driving in the north.Ive got a better idea though why not spend your three weeks in the north, problem solved, Good luck, Paul.

Sorry for being a bit devious and all that but..... I met lots of people when I was over in the summer who didn't bother telling their hire companies in the south that they had taken the car north and just paid the insurance at the border. Whether you have permission or not, you will still have to get it back to the south. Hmmmm. Could be a little earner in this, towing cars to the south...anyone got a tow truck for sale? Lem

Hi Cosyt,Have hired from several car hire firms in the south and always head straight for the border,at first (2 1/2 yrs ago it was always printed on the forms and a big thing was made of you are not to go over the border yeh right lol but now they dont seem not to bother. But you have the cost of the 3rd party ins at the border so maker sure you drive carefully, never had any problems myself but you have to decide fairly new car for reliability you dont want to break down in the north or old motor so if it gets scratched you hope it doesnt get noticed.Ive had my fair share of bangers on hire lol only broke down once (fuel pump) but surprising what you can do with a 5ltr garden sprayer and a few jubillee clips . john

We always used Petsas. No problem with them, they even wrote to me saying that as long as insurance was paid at border then no problems.

Economy car rentals on the web everytime, no problem, pick up at Larnaca or Paphos Airport drive to border, pay insurance for TRNC and come and go across as you please, return car to Larnaca or Paphos when your finished, been doing it since border opened, never had any problems, but you must realise you are only on 3rd party insurance whilst in the north and if you do have any problems with the car you will have to get it back across the border, but you pays your money and takes your choice, no guarantees in life.

There was an announcement a couple of months back about being able to take north cars south but I have yet to hear about anyone who has done it .When we crossed over in September I did see a North hire car just couldn't make out which company. We have done it the other way several times and have always used Petsas just think they always give us their oldest cars - however we have never had any problems with them
