Agreed, and furthermore if anyone should get one, then report it to Hotmail . They don't like thesre scams any more than you do.

People who pay any attention to emails like this in 2011 really live in the last decade of the past century.

Unfortunately DC, there a lot of people that are still (believe it or not) new to using the world wide web, and are at risk to falling for these scams. I only thought it responsible of me to let our less informed friends and members aware of this. DD

Thanks DD for being caring enough to warn people. DC is out or order for criticising those who are vulnerable and could fall foul of such messages. Many believe that Hotmail is genuine and have little concept that there are some reallynasty people out there wishing to do you harmk for their own selfish ends - such as getting identity details for false passport purposes, or bank details to steal your money. So thanks DD for warning people of the potential danger. More DD's in the world would make it a better place. Unnecessary comments from dc we could do without.

Basheer, what an awful lesson to learn! I think in future, for any and all members who are not yet used to the mechanics of the internet, if you receive any emails requesting your passwords and any other personnel information...ask here first before doing ANY replies! There are plenty of folk here who wont slate you for not knowing. Take care folks. DD

RE msg 7, Maz: (...) DC is out or order for criticising those who are vulnerable and could fall foul of such messages. (...) ▶ Don't start the engine if you can't drive. Emails like the one mentioned above only succeed because people don't want to know what they are doing or should do. In all media of the world people have been warned a million times: "DON'T EVER GIVE AWAY YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS". Real banks, Internet providers and what have you will NEVER ask for your details via email. Etc, etc. But many people don't want to read - they want to type, type, type. If you are vulnerable when you use a computer - you are stupid and what happens is your own fault. Again: Don't start the engine if you can't drive. P.S. It's no wonder that sending these emails is still profitable - read msg 9.

Pompous Ass! some of the people on this forum have only just acquired their first computer - some of them middle aged or elderly - and they do very well, thank you very much! what's wrong with posting a warning about possible email/hot mail scams? All YOU seem to want to do is 'type type type' brackets! {{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Go walk up a mountain you patronising old fart! |

Message (13)............. Oh Maggie you are so right about the warnings and as you say (HE) was born a computer expert . Many people (DO) get taken in by these scams , even in this day and age . I must (SAY) that" patronising old fart "is a bit tame ( in my opinion ), but well said anyway .

I donated to Johnny Lee - and gave the cause publicity - long before you became the self-styled leader of the back to the top thread. But with a "lady" like you - as you show yourself at any occasion - I will have nothing to do. This thread was about scam email but is hijacked and as usual by the known second hand writers. So: bye.

Well what a nasty little dutch person! Sorry to high jack your thread Sam - the HOTMAIL scam is very important and people should be warned not to give out their details to anyone asking for them. The rule is: if it's a genuine organisation they will NEVER ask you to click on a link and give your details! Stay safe folks! Oh, and cloggy.............have a nice day! xxxxxx

I wonder if he donates a percentage of his ill gotten gains (undeclared illegal earnings) from his hysterical walks to the forum! ps - NOT a spelling mistake....I meant HYSTERICAL!!!!! lol Maggie x (if I get banned will someone please keep wee Ismail's thread at the top? Ta very much x) |

A question to all you nice folk that care about others! Can you tell me why DC is hell bent on upsetting as many people as possible on this forum? And second question. Does DC know how many people he has turned away form Cyprus44 because of his accusing, pompous attitude. Personally I do not like criticising others, but why doesn't DC see the good in others, as others see good in him for all he does to help people love this place. Do you not agree with me that if DClaid off the 'nasty' more people would love him. And isn't that what allhumans want? As a friend of mine would say 'Answers on the back of a postage stamp, please.!

Agreed PhilB. His posts on history are interesting, his talks and walks are fascinating, so there is much good in him. He should let people admire him for that, instead of disliking him for his unnecessary criticism of others. If he did say he would not get involved in postings other than his own, then he has broken his word. Shame!

A friend of ours back home is 87 and just starting to use a computer, her Age Concern group have been assisting them all, how fantastic ! and If we were still at home I do not think we would have felt the need to use one either...we may have just waited till we were 87, as it sure takes away any boredom in life once you are housebound ! I am more of a peoples person..contact with people and not this laptop is my first priority This sort of thing could well isolate people ! Spider,X PS....I have never had mail like this and would never open them anyway But might have done the first week or so : )

Hello, I'm sending this short email with panic in my heart, the situation of things here right now seems so tensed and frighting because I'm stranded here, apparently l was stuck here in LONDON ENGLAND with family because we were held by muggers on our back to the hotel we all lodged yesterday after shopping at the city mall, our wallets were taken from us which has our credit cards and bank cards in it, but we already canceled them now, our passports were taken as well but the embassy are working on it trying to fix a way to get us an ID that will be valid for us to get on flight back home but seems like it will take couple of days or three but right now i need a quick loan from you which is very urgent, so we can use for our upkeep for the next 3days, l promise to pay you back, as soon as i'm back home, l give you my word on that, please email me as soon as you get this to confirm and let me know if you can be of help. God bless you

Poor you basheer, what an awful way to learn a very important lesson. Hope it makes people sit up and take notice. There are some very clever, professional thieves out there who succeed only because vulnerable, trusting people give out their personal information. I have absolutely no patience at all with DC's attitude, I find it quite hostile and inappropriate for him to be so nasty on the forum. Perhaps he has indigestion!

I had a similar e mail (obviously her e mail address has been 'stolen' ) from a Turkish Cypriot friend who speaks little English, and she asked (in almost perfect English) for money because she was stranged in a hotel in Spain - money, credit cards, passport etc, stolen, and would pay me back when she got back. Of course she wasn't in Spain, she was at work here, and furthermore I couldn't expect her to pay back when she was back cos she hadn't gone. Because the e mail was genuinely from her address I might have believed it but I knew her English was not good enough. I now query all e mails that 'suck' by forwarding on to the person concerned and checking whether it is from them. That way, no one gets into trouble. Also one can report such e mails to hotmail as scams and they investigate.

Hans - I hope, having already read some of the replies to your original response, you will have reflected on what was a unjustifiably ignorant response. There are obviously many people, like yourself, who have adapted to and totally understand the rules and practices of all forms of "electronic communication". But there is also a multitude of people, especially from our elder members of society, who have attempted to embrace the technological advances, mainly to keep in touch with family members, and have found themselves victims of such scams. Shame on you for suggesting their belief in honesty is at blame and not the scumbags who perpetrate such crimes.

Just to add - received an email today from Nat West Bank to say that the bank thought there were some dubious transactions on our account and could we fill in details on the attached form....Needless to say they asked for our name, address, account number, pin number etc. etc..... we dont bank with Nat. west but it was all printed on their logo and would have been very convincing if we had had a Nat West bank account, which we dont!!

And not only Nat West, bvut also HSBC and Lloyds. Good logos, and very credible, except that many recipients do not bank with them. And to anyone who may wonder how you tell the difference, one answer is that all banks claim that if their e mail is genuine, they refer to you by name AND they assert they never ask for certain details by e mail. So thanks Shrimp for adding more info to help those who are new to the world of cyberspace.

I'm so glad that people are taking notice of these scams. I admit, that after DC's comment i thought for a minute people would think i was thick for warning everyone...seems i was not thick...and have perhaps saved some vulnerable person from being scammed. Stay alert people, and remember, if you have doubts...DELETE!! Or alternatively, post your worries on here, and i'm sure someone will be able to assist you. DD

I am with DC - whilst his rhetoric may sometimes come across as patronising, English is not his first language, ergo - there is every chance the reader may see it as abrupt, yet - how many people speak a second language as well as indigenous folk do? His command is very good; English is not an easy language to learn. If anyone wrote asking when you last had sex, or how much money you have in the Bank - would you send that information? NO - so why would anyone (whether or not, been told not to) put in an e.mail - their password? What would be the point of having individual passwords to access accounts, if it were to be shared with a third party just because someone asks for it? Totally negates a password. Surely, common sense would dictate, you don't share that type of information with ANYONE, so it has to be a spoof mail. Some computer 'newbies' could be caught out, but would be in minority; so I would posit the character assassination of DC is more personal than thread relevant
