Quiz (03): Again I have divided a picture of (part of) an historic monument in TRNC in 10 rectangles. ▶ The questions: Where was the picture taken and what do you see on the picture? ▶ I'll fill one rectangle at random times - but there'll be no winner in this Quiz if in the end there are less than three empty rectangles to fill! Here and there I'll give a cryptic hint or some info... ▶ The prize in this Quiz: The first good (complete!) answer wins an invitation for two for an Historical Walk in Kyrenia. OK, here we go: expats and swallows, show your knowledge about Northern Cyprus... ▶ Click this link to view the picture: [ http://www.allcrusades.com/bb_webpages_04/06_quiz_03/tekst.html ] P.S. Difficulty of this Quiz: VERY difficult...

RE msg 11, Bill: No. Even: Not al all... RE msg 15, Groucho: Welcome in the thread! But the answer to your reply is: No. Well, another hint: in a 4500 years (maybe older) old settlement/village/town... Good luck, all! I'm in Famagusta today, to "get a life" what some C44 members often wish me... When I'm back I'll update this thread. A whole day for No1Doyen to search the Internet with his little gadget, the iPhone. Have a nice day, see you back here late this afternoon!

It is the roofed tomb, otherwise known as Tomb 6 in the Bronze age cemetery just below Karmi. The portion of the picture marked '9' shows a bas relief figure probably with fertility significance. D2

Good afternoon! I'm back from another nice historical walk in Famagusta - the 'international' group (British, German and Dutch) enjoyed a fine day in glorious weather! To all replies after my last post this morning: NO! Even the renowned darrener2 seems to be guessing... A hint again: the only hostel in Northern Cyprus... And who is first to post may tell me which rectangle to fill with part of the picture (except part nr. 3)!

| RE msg 39-40-41-42: No! I have now uploaded the full picture of what is known as "The Stone Figure" - and that's all that is known! On the web page I have given some information about the house that, near the roof, exhibits this medieval figure. A lot of guesses from the readers, but there is no winner in this Quiz! ▶ Click this link to view the picture: [ http://www.allcrusades.com/bb_webpages_04/06_quiz_03/tekst.html ]. | RE msg 44, Schoie: Thank you for your reply, which really makes my day! It's exactly what I hope to achieve! My inspiration to make a regular Historical Quiz on C44 comes from a story which was written by my British colleague, the journalist Gary Chapman, who is a long time resident in Northern Cyprus. Gary interviewed the late expert on historic Cyprus, William "Bill" Dreghorn, in July 1993 (Cyprus Today) and quoted his words: "The Mayor of Girne has done much to improve various historical landmarks in the town, and yet the tourists can miss so much. For example, how many sightseers even think of looking at the tops of buildings as they walk the streets. This is why I drew up the latest route to open the eyes of locals and tourists who wish to enjoy the often-missed history of the area.'' I always say I can only hope to walk in the shadow of Bill Dreghorn - I do my best to make tourists and expats aware of all the interesting historic remains. |
