Good point Fosterscan, that was my main concern. But surely the use of dna would totally eliminate any chance of that happening, Paul.

Of course the dna would prove this. It sounds barbaric to castrate them but vets do it all the time.

It very much depends on what you class as a "sex offender" Paul. It is a blanket term for a variety of crimes. A 17 year old lad who has sex with his 15 year old girlfriend could be classed as a sex offender but I'm sure that most people would not put him in the same class as paedophiles.

Hi Cronos, I was thinking more along the lines of paedophilia, not the scenario you mention in mess 11, Paul.

| How sex offenders should be punished is......... according to the law. In the European Union, any of the above suggestions are not only illegal but against all the codes of Human Rights. So thats quite an easy one, BUT the incident itself took place in Turkey, which is trying to get into the EU, so they will no doubt follow EU guidelines, or be subjected to even more negative press. | when i did socially at school, we were doing a topic on rape.....and was asked a similiar question my answer was to sit the guy on a chair, stark naked, with a electric wire going from one side to the other, a women to stand in front of him and be very sexual in what she was doing, when he got aroused, he would then touch the electric wire and get a shock... my teacher said that was horrible, but good..... |

find it strange this harsh penalties are being called for when last week a gentleman who killed 2 youths in a car was being held in jail was being asked to be freed seems double standards in my opinion

Phil...msg 25..."a gentleman who killed 2 youths in a car " That's one way of phrasing it I suppose. Another way might be " a gentleman who was involved in a road traffic accident in which two youths unfortunately died".

msg 36 where do you draw the line the " a gentleman who was involved in a road traffic accident in which two youths unfortunately died". what do their parents want I know this is a different situation but as zoot says mob mentality is dangerous especially the brainwashed ones who watch /listen to the media and have no opinions of their own

For those convicted there should be swinging sentences in keeping with the level of disgust felt by what must be the very large majority of right minded people. There should be a custom built new facility named "HMP Nonse". The cost should be met by those polititions who squandered tax payers money on the debacle of the Millennium Dome.

Paedophilia is the one mental condition that is almost impossible to cure either with medication and/or therapy. Just to remove the most obvious means of sexual satisfaction (castration) still leaves a million and one other ways of violating a child to satisfy the paedophiles desires. Literal or chemical castration won't cure him (the vast majority of paedophiles are men) of his fantasies that children want the abuse they visit upon them; he feels compelled to give them physical 'love', convincing himself he is doing them no harm. You don't need an erection to carry out sexual assault.

hippo best suggestion yet Ms Garnet do you think we are all stupid of course we know you can sexual assault others without an erection I suppose these sex offenders need 'help' and if it is a life long condition that cannot be changed then the best place for them as said is one big 'pit' for them all as they are all scum bags that will never be rehabilitated that prey on woman and children - A further punishment leave them in a roomfull of woman for a month or so they will soon mend their ways
