Anyone looked at their website and got same exchange rate when visiting them? Rang them today, website offered 2.55tl/£ plus statement of better rate if you exchange large amount. They said rate 2.54tl and no better rate for exchanging large amount (asked for £2k). Why advertise better rates than what they are going to pay you? Going to Famagusta tomorrow trying elsewhere.

Must admit have used Monexchange quite often, but never checked web site rates before going earlier.

In Jan I went in to change £300 the rate on the window and the tele inside said 2.4450 when I got my TL and receipt it said 2.4400 only a difference of .005 when I queried it I was told to look at the rate guess what rate on the window and tele said 2.440, I pointed out that wasn't the rate when I entered, the assistant went in the back to speak with someone and I was given the 2.4450.

Dear japeal,

first of all, the rate displayed on the internet are indicative, and might not be updated, as the rates are keeping moving in both directions (because of what happening in Egypt). We apologize that we might not be able to update instantly.

We pride on our rates, and that is why we are not scared to put them on the window! we offer better rates for amts larger than 5k, depending on the market conditions, but it is guaranteed.

Hope this helps,

Monexchange Ltd.

Dear Gooligan,

Just to let you know the offical rates that you might see on "XE" are for much larger volumes, and they are inter-bank quatations.

We try to give as much as we could to our customers. We try to be more competitive than the high street banks. Our business model is based on making money out of volume rather than margins. I am happy to hear that you are satisfied with our service.

Dear Tootie,

Our website might not be updated at that moment. in the morning, the rates were better than afternoon.

We have put the update time below the indicative rates, so that our visitors can see how fresh the rates are. If you see that the rates are updated as of the late morning, and you ring us late afternoon, there is strong possibility that the rates might be inaccurate.

As I said before, we apologize for that inconvenience. Monexchange is the first exchange shop that has put the rates online, and we are continuing to invest in the internet platform to make it better service for our customers like you.

monexcyprus, Thank you.

Please understand I was not making a negative comment about yourself, but am only trying to understand why msg1 would travel all the way to Famagusta tomorrow for the sake of a few Kurus ?

japeal, how much would it cost you to go Famagusta, only to save a few kurus or even 10 Lira?

I think that all money exchanges are in a competitive business and I believe that the one at Karakum is one of the best. I use them, and I also appreciate that they, as a business. are struggling as much as many others. In those circumstances I think they offer good and fair rates. Trusting the internet is like trusting newspapers. By the time you read the rate it is out of date.

As for people having 12K to change - I just wish I had. But even if I had, why should I expect a better rate? Does the money exchange get a better rate for cashing large sums? I doubt it.

Monexchange in Karakum is opposite the Lemar, they are a good place and always fair, my initial post was just why the rate was different on the internet to what was being offered. I was not 'slagging' them off merely asking a question. They are so good with customers, that they were even giving bottles of whiskey to regular customers at christmas.
