Hi Janet

Olaytrans - they are fantastic. They have an agent in UK who will pack your goods if required, or will just collect if you pack up. They can provide full containers or part loads (ie a few items they will put in with someone elses). They will advise what to do at all stages, take you to customs and tell you what to say, My husband bought a telescope over and they said tell them you are into astrology, we bought over second hand tv, hi-fi unit as well as settee, personal bits, electrical goods and paid 21ytl duty. 0392 366 6540 is their no in Famagusta, they are shortly opening an office in Girne. Some other carriers sub contract and your goods are handled by several companies. We had 4 pallets and only an umbrella got bent nothing else damaged, their prices are very very competative.

make sure everything you bring over is used as you stand less chance of paying import duty on it. We were advised not to use the original boxes as depending on who is on duty in customs they could class it as new items so charge.

If you are bringing in a generator then splash paint on it or scratch it. Take care with fax machines as these will often be charged import duty on. If bringing in a chain saw make sure you registered it so you can use it especially if its petrol as they may call upon you if there is an emergency in the forest and need all hands on deck to fall trees.
