Checked the back of packet of cheese, and was astounded to see next to the weight (+/- 10%)and this was on a popular brand, and if anyone posts that i might get an extra 10% on my slice of cheese, then i would like a pint of whatever they are drinking.

The packaging also leaves a lot to be desired,no info at all,Union flag varies on nearly all packs, might just take a pack back to the UK and send it to the brand distributor for their comments

I have a packet and it says +/- 25 gr about 9% took it out of the packet and it weighs 305 gr which is 5 gram more.

Don't forget that with escalating food/commodity prices world-wide many UK food manufacturers are reducing packet content, rather than jacking up the price e.g. Cadbury's have knocked off 2 squares from their standard block of dairy milk chocolate.

packaged food is batch sampled and the average weight of the batch must conform to the label weight, however an individual item is allowed to vary within a range. Manufacturers tend to err on the side of caution rather than have a batch rejected by Trading Standards

Fair point,no i did not as i did not buy any.

Can`t understand the massive plus or minus bit,as the UK branded cheese had on the same label as the local stuff.

My kitchen scales are calibrated to within plus/minus 1% SO CAN`T UNDERSTAND WHY COMMERCIAL SCALES ARE SO FAR OUT

Incidentally i have a full set of certified calibrated weights up to 25kg ,so i could check the five points of any scale platform

Yenibob. Syphon Tube ? What a gas! I hope you are not snorting stuff other than cheese ? I can understand that the food industry wishes to contain cost by often continuing to use the same size packaging when the contents are reduced but is this not a convenient way to increase or retain their profit margins with less chance of the public being aware ? There is no hesitation marking existing containers with for example "10% extra free" so perhaps when contents are reduced for the same price they should be obligated to mark the containers "10% less for the same price" !
