hi bigjuss try DEFRA they will tell you which carries and conditions. Tom at Flightholiday (detail on here) also arranges the transportation. good luck. I brough my staffi but he was not considered a big dog just heavy. Now no too many ailines will allow that and other breeds x

My friend brought two dogs over, one small and one huge, (a small horse).

I'm pretty sure they flew them over, the big one had to go in a measured large cage, they were very strict about the size.

I'll ask her to answer this post just in case my info. is incorrect.

They do also have to go through the quarantine procedures.

Bigjuss,we brought two large Labradors over in October last year through Larnaca with Cyprus Airlines.Best to contact Tom at Flight holiday as he made all the arrangements for us including the kennels and vet inspections.

You need to do this professionally as there are many hurdles and if you get it wrong you and the dogs could be in trouble-speak to Tom he was brilliant for us.

In November you asked some of these questions and Tom from flightholiday advised you to check if your dog would be allowed into NC.

i have checked and my dog is allowed to be imported into north cyprus.

dr mehmet of the north cyprus vetinary service(ministry of agriculture and forestry) confirmed with me the other day that there would be no problem in importing a rottweiller.rottweillers are on no north cyprus "dangerous dogs " list, nor are they on the british dangerous dogs list.

i have spoken to tom of flight holiday and couldnt come to any agreement, the price quoted was completely out of the question, so im gonna organise myself...

just wanted to know if any members had used any of the airlines operating at the moment, or have any info relating to recent imports of large breeds.

thanks

Hi I brought a very large English Mastiff, we struggled with airlines sorry, not because of the weight, it was the height of the hold which was I think 30" you have to allow for movement inside of a cage, so sadly we struggled as they dont send the larger planes (with larger holds for pets) to here in cooler months, as this is when you need to import your dog so it can adjust to the climate. So after lots of help from people on here we decided it would be better to drive here with her, it was hard work, but she was with us all the way here and it was better for her too.

Hope this helps!!!

Justin Msg 1 & 7 - You have asked us about Brutus - To be fair it was not that you could not come to an agreement with us but that the total cost was higher than you had anticipated for your loved pet to travel.

When the airline charge is already near enough 1,200.00 at cost plus other fees, travelling kennel 52X27X38 (inches) and disbursements plus some profit and the dreaded 20% VAT I'm sorry to say you can only expect a fairly steep bill.

The price still stands if you want to take us up on it and you are of course welcome to a continuance of the advice and help.

Tom

IAH Ltd

Tracy Msg 8 - how long ago? It sounds like over 9 months and some airline and other availability & rules have changed since then.

Cyprus airways,Thomson, Monarch ect all fly into the south. If you get your paperwork in order you shouldn't have a problem bringing the dog to the north. The DEFRA website gives a list of all routes into Cyprus from the UK.

Hi Tom, yes it was just over 9 months ago, you were very helpful with us but sadly we could not get a larger hold at that time of year, we also if you remember asked if we could come via Larnaca and they would not let us, so we decided to drive here, thank you for your help, also glad they can take larger dogs now and also allow them through Larnaca in the south, thanks for your help and good luck to everybody on planning carefully for travel arrangements.

thanks for all your advice...

made a few calls yesterday & at last seem to be getting somewhere!!

turkish airlines fly dogs out of stansted & ive been quoted £8 per kilo, for my rottweiller, its around £500-£600 including the crate weight.crates can be bought cheaply from ebay.

ill ring all other airlines suggested, and ill quote the costs & procedures when i find out.

i think from my findings, bringing a dog into the trnc has to be a d.i.y job,

for a while i was just trying to find out "ball park" figures on the cost of flying a dog to the trnc, but nobody would say,so if you are intersted, these are the costs ive been quoted so far.....

tom at iah holidays quoted me £2200.

airpets (reputed 2 b expensive)quoted me £1400,

flypets.co.uk have estimated around £1200.

if all goes well and i organise myself,i reckon ill fly the mutt here for under a £1000,if its anymore, ill do as u did tracy, and drive.

classic car, brutus ridin shotgun....2 birds with one stone me thinks..yeah...lol

I would respectfully ask, as you are taking a dog to Cyprus, in light of the appalling feral dog problem there, getting worse by the day (notwithstanding you are taking such a large dog) have you/will you - have it neutered?

i think turkish airlines only allows up to 32kg, thats including the crate, our dog was over 40kg with crate,

so had to come via south

simple enought you fly to the greek side cyprus airlines for a 40kg dog plus crate cost £1100 a couple of years ago.Monarch also take animals they were slightly dearer at £1400 but they supply the crate if required.you need to get your import papers to TRNC sorted so when your dog arrives they will let it enter. One of thr main problems we came across was they wont issue an import licence until they have seen the export licence which you only get from your vet 24 hours or less before your dog flies .don't know if its still the same but arranged it with the vetinary department so we phoned them when the dog arrived at the border and they escorted us to the kennels . you should be able to buy the airline approved carriers fairly easily we bought ours from a dog breeder.

Justin - Msg 15 I am not sure when or where you got your prices apart from us at IAH nor what was included I am sure that it was not like for like. Even taking Susan's msg 18 price of £1,100 two years ago plus VAT that is not far off what you say you have been quoted.

As you well know airfreight prices along with seat prices have risen in that period. I'ts the weekend so I will not try to find out more but either IAH is being ripped off by our suppliers or there is something amiss with the other prices.

hi tom,

theres definatley nothing amiss with the prices i have been quoted.

i think there is something amiss with your quote though..

ive spoken to people who have recently imported dogs of large breeds and as an average, people are currently spending a little over a £1000 all in ,v.a.t the lot!

ive also rang turkish airlines ,twice, and both english speaking advisors told me dogs go on at £8 per kilo and you pay at the cargo desk.

when i first spoke to you, you told me you had a lady with 3 alsations that you helped import for £2200,so i cant understand how you have quoted me £2200 for one dog?

airpets who are reputed as being the most expensive can fly the dog at £1400,all in inc v.a.t,and compared to what others have spent, thats expensive...

your price was £2200,turkish airlines will take brutus for between £500 - £600,that IS the correct cost of the flight....which makes me wonder where the extra £1600 - £1700 is being spent..

i suggest you check your figures tom..........

msgarnet.....

i wont be having brutus neutered.he is 7 now,and has perfect temperement.

although he is a rottie,he has the temperament of a labrador, but softer!

he,s been bought up well,& has never ever been aggressive with anyone, hes scared stiff of other dogs.

i wouldnt have him neutered as i dont wanna mess with his temperament.

sometimes neutering old males makes them aggressive, or they go the other way, become inactive, put lots of weight on and end up having to be put down as rotties are prone to hip problems in old age.

i understand your concern,as ferel dogs in the trnc are a massive problem.

i have a large house in cyprus with a decent amount of land which has a walled perimiter,so theres no chance of him getting out and jumping all the local females anyway, as he is 100% gay.

he is fit as a fiddle, well hung and very handsome, ive been asked lots of times for him to breed, but faced with a female,he ran away and hid in the bushes.

"bumbus" is a dud not a stud..lol

Highly recommended airpets.

Why fly your dog with Turkish airways cos they will have a longer journey, fly into the south.

Hi Justin - Thank you for prompting me - I have done my checks today:

1] Airpets like for like offered me today a price of 1917 including VAT to ROC not including the fact we also have some extra costs which we incur to assist you with the contacts for someone to help you with the crossing from Larnaca to your pets destination etc. So our 2283 including VAT was not such a big difference (possibly worth it for extra knowledge, service and assistance from IAH - your choice less research and worry for you).

2] For animals weighing less than 30 Kg including other hand baggage you could take your pet all the way direct to Ercan as long as the travelling kennel is 26cm high by 24*42 - this is with Turkish under the seat.

Continued on Msg 28

From Msg 28

3] If you want to transport your dog from LHR via IST to Ercan the Turkish cargo cost would be around 600 and you would need to go via a cargo handler (we work with one with good expertise). Your pet would have to tranship in Istanbul which might incur charges as it is an import and an export to Turkey (at one point a while back we were told in the region of 400)

You would have to travel with your pet as there are no livestock handling facilities in Istanbul.

If the plane arrives in the UK and is not suitable then you might have to rebook your flight etc.

You would need to arrange for your own export certificates etc

4] Where did the three Alsatians come from as to date we have only helped with one or two animals per client although we had one client who for (understandable) personal reasons decided not to move across with three animals very recently.

Hi All - In my two posts above 28 & 29 I was talking about a specific rather large dog, different animals will be different prices and can pose different problems.

Please make sure if you are bringing your families best friend to North Cyprus that you keep up the pet passport up to date; should you want them to return to the UK even though complex and difficult quarantine should be a lesser problem if you have kept the jab's in order if you want any advice contact KAR (we are pleased to help but would refer you to them as another well equipped information source).

bigjuss

i used tom from flightholidays and it was well worth it, any hicups along the way got sorted out by flightholidays, and they happen, dont forget the extras, frountlined, worming, correct sized crate, to be seen by vet for fit to travel , transport to airport uk end,the vat other end, transport to border, fees for quarentine and paperwork etc

its a lot of work.

good luck with it, its worth it

When CTA went belly up we decided rather than fly our pets out we would drive them over (2 medium sized dogs and a cat). Formalities well in hand and we are leaving UK on 26 April. 9 weeks and counting!

There is no problem in getting the dog across the boarder if you have the correct paper work.

If you don't want the hasstle give the guys at Top Dog Hotel a call and they can sort it all for you.
