welcome Jayr All the info you need is on these sites, and advice can be taken from other peoples experience. Some is obvious by now ,like dont buy off plan, dont use lawyer estate agent recommends. If I was you I would rent ,and wait to see the outcome of the talks, before committing. Take it easy, sit back and enjoy yourself meanwhile You have nothing to lose, house prices wont go up ,so can afford to wait. Just one thing, you probably know that if UK government "knows"you live outside UK for 6months or more then you are no longer entitled to free NHS care, and no rise in state pension outside EU,so maybe advisable to keep an 'address of sorts in UK. You will also find that some on this site think that lots of Scots are called Jock, have you ever met one? and can barely speak english, funny I know . Whereas everybody else knows that all male Scots are called Jimmy.

Check that your pension is sufficient for the TRNC to allow you to reside as one pensioner has already found to her cost.

I would also suggest that you rent for at least a year, be here in all seasons - June, July & August are very hot for us Scots. Many people come here and buy, decide it's not for them then have the hassle of selling up. If you rent it's not such a problem and you can always buy later if you want to stay. The added benefit is that you can see whereabouts you would like to live before committing yourself. There are lots of properties available for rent and some at low rent if you maintain them on behalf of the owner. You can see from this forum that it helps to keep your wits about you when purchasing property, best to take your time. Eileen (ex BG, Granton)

John, welcome! The only problems you will encounter are those of translation,... Midges = Sand flies. Beef Dripping = Olive oil. Haggis = Kebaps. Tenement = Luxury apartment. Scottish banknotes = Blank stares. Oh,.. and,.. Gas Technician = Excess consumption of Efes!! As others have said, DONT buy offplan, keep an address back home,... kids, relatives, whatever. Most of all, enjoy one of the last gems in the Med! rob

I don't know what he's talking about, maybe I've forgotten. I was very happy at Granton (1989-1996) but like a lot BG staff was offered and took VR. I was occasionally let loose in the depots to work on PCs/networks so you never know we may have met. I bet you that there are loads of ex-BG staff over here, they all had to go somewhere....
