Harsh reaction from TRNC officials

Prime Minister Irsen Küçük has issued a strong reaction criticizing Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias’ words that ‘Turkey should get out of the way and allow the Cypriots to share power in Cyprus’. He advised Christofias to stay out of TRNC affairs. Prime Minister Irsen Küçük made a statement before chairing the Council of Ministers meeting today.



Referring to the Greek Cypriot leaders words calling for Turkey to withdraw from the island, Mr. Küçük reminded that the Greek Army was also still stationed on the island adding that for years the Greek Army was behind the attacks waged against Cyprus Turks who were unprotected on the island.

Küçük advised Christofias to stay out of the TRNC’s affairs. Also responding to Christofias in a written statement Foreign Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun has called on the Greek Cypriot leader to stop wrongly directing his own people.



“Christofias should tell his people that a political solution to the Cyprus problem is only possible with the continuation of the guarantee system with the existence of two peoples with equal status” said Ozgurgun.

The Foreign Minister said if the Greek Cypriot leadership keeps these realities in mind and presents constructive proposals at the negotiations table, then a just and lasting solution can be achieved in Cyprus.
